    Default Crafting for Casters

This is something I thought about for a while and wished it was part of the game. First off, I am not a programmer and don't understand what it would take to do something like this. My question is wouldn't powerful wizards and sorcerers be able to make their own elixirs and potions after a while? I know that the DDO store sells spell pots and they don't want to hurt their sales...I understand it. But wouldn't it be nice if there were a way for a caster to slowly be able to create some elixir on his or her own as they level up and become more powerful? I'm not saying they should be able to just create sovereign pots in bulk or anything but I don't see why players as casters shouldn't or wouldn't be able to create them or some potions....to me that all seems like part of being a caster.

Perhaps it could even work off of the existing or expand the existing Cannith crafting model where we could decon items for their magical essence. We could turn that essence into elixir or potions when combined with other components and the amount of elixir or duration of a potion would be determined by alchemal crafting level plus wizard/sorc level. It can be a slow process that allows a caster player the chance to work towards becoming a master alchemist and yet allows those casters that choose not to go the alchemal crafting route to get heir pots from quests, trade, AH and SE or the DDO store. Casters can be expensive to play in terms of getting enough pots...especially those just starting out and haven't learned how to manage their spell points properly yet.

    Anyhow, it's just an idea.

Should already be in the game but they screwed the pooch.

    Brew Potion [Item Creation]
    Prerequisite
    Caster level 3rd.

    Benefit
You can create a potion of any 3rd-level or lower spell that you know and that targets one or more creatures. Brewing a potion takes one day. When you create a potion, you set the caster level, which must be sufficient to cast the spell in question and no higher than your own level. The base price of a potion is its spell level × its caster level × 50 gp. To brew a potion, you must spend 1/25 of this base price in XP and use up raw materials costing one half this base price.

When you create a potion, you make any choices that you would normally make when casting the spell. Whoever drinks the potion is the target of the spell.

Any potion that stores a spell with a costly material component or an XP cost also carries a commensurate cost. In addition to the costs derived from the base price, you must expend the material component or pay the XP when creating the potion.
