Great program! Love it. There is a small bug I'm reporting. (It may have mentioned, but 28 pages is a lot to go through.) On the Stats page there is a drop down for "Preferred Build Points:" The drop down works for Adventurer, Hero & Legend, but if you select "Champion" it sets it to "Hero" instead of "Champion". Not too big a deal, but just want to point it out. Thanks again for your great Character Builder program!

My current workaround for this is to uncheck the other three, and then recheck Hero & Legend (I don't bother with Adventurer since I'm not making builds for the public lol)

Nice, this works.

I was going to suggest changing the "Default Build Points" in Tools => Options, but that doesn't get around the issue because it appears to happen every time you open the stats screen.

As LrdSlvrhnd says, uncheck all four build point options, then re-check champion first and you'll get champion as your current build points. You can then re-check all the other ones and it'll stay champion.

Note that if you ever open the stats screen again, the bug kicks in again and changes you over to hero. The work-around is the same: uncheck all build points, then choose champion first.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has had any success/tips on how to get the character builder to run on a Macbook. I've tried Wine, Wineskins, and the 3 Wine tricks that the OP posted in this thread (allfonts etc.). I keep striking out. I even tried emulating a VB program on Wine, and that ended poorly. Basically, I have no business even pretending I know what I'm doing with coding, visual basics, or apparently this program outside the realm of a PC (I can handle the double click). So, I figured I'd ask in hopes someone has some insight.

I realize the simplest solution is to just get a PC--and you're not wrong. But I'm broke, and I'd love to tweak builds while the GF watches her reality shows where rich people get in money fights--or whatever the hell they're about.

the program basically loads an incomplete "frame" of the program which is unusable--a lot of buttons are there, but un-clickable. The other options I've found--outside of Wine--all seem to require a copy of Windows, but I'm lacking one unfortunately.

Any help would be beyond appreciated, and apologies if this is a bit off topic. I love this program, and would like to use it as my main method of procrastination.

Found another error... Fighter & Paladin Vanguard, the Shield Specialization adds "Bug: currently provides no benefit" - wiki says that it provides the benefit, it just doesn't show on the inventory panel.

I don't maintain descriptions for enhancements and destinies. (That would be way too much work.) Instead, I wrote a routine that crawls the wiki, grabbing descriptions for all enhancements and destinies (and spells, originally, but I don't crawl spells anymore) and updating the data files accordingly. I do this each time I post new updates.

Those "Bug: currently provides no benefit" notes were from wiki the last time I crawled the data. If they aren't on the wiki anymore, they'll be gone in the next update. Which should be soon (maybe an hour?) for the U31 fighter changes.

I thought I'd changed Warchanter to get rid of that problem with Skaldic Rage's "60 seconds 3 minutes" since the strikeout doesn't carry over, but it's not on your list... ohhhh, I know what it was, I changed it in my data file while changing the Shield Specialization, but not the Wiki. Oops. Now I wish I'd cleaned it up on the Wiki too. EDIT: And now it's changed, so *next* time you run the crawler it'll make it in lol

(I actually had another issue with that build, but fortunately realized it was a PEBCAK error before adding it... 8-} )

Hey there folks, when toying around and attempting to plan out some hot-swap variants for my current Vanguard Paladin I noticed a slight problem. The "Endless Smiting" ability in Tier 2 only allows 1 rank to be purchased in the planner despite in-game allowing up to three ranks, though the description is the same. I went poking around the Data folder and added the, "Ranks: 3" entry for that ability in "Destinies.txt".

Great program! Very helpful. Being able to select enhancements is a such a valuable aid.

I do have an enhancement request. On the main screen, is there any way to get it to scroll using the mouse scroll wheel? I know it is minor compared to the functionality of the code. But, when I am trying to compare two builds, it would be a lot faster/easier if I could just move my mouse anywhere over the window and scroll. I am hoping this would just be boiler-plate code. Thanks.

I also have another bug report: I encounter the "Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range" a lot, especially during Enhancement selection.

Sometimes, the program seems to insert (if you drag an enhancement and drop it without wanting to use it) or keep a blank slot (once the enhancement is removed). This may also happen if you replace a low-tier enhancement with another enhancement while keeping higher-tier enhancements. Then, the program will crash due to the subscript error.

It sounds like the bug may be linked to the updated summary page (as it cannot find the name to insert) and/or to a wrong (counter <-> array) length pair.

@EllisDee37: If you are interested, I do have a buggy auto-save which crashes upon load and I can try to create a build which will produce the error in a deterministic way.

It's trickier than it should be because the program is written in a language that was released in 1998, predating mouse wheels. I believe to add mouse wheel support I'd have to add a dependency, which may require an installation program. I greatly prefer the current situation, where any Windows version from XP on will run the program natively, no installation required.

It's not certain that adding mouse wheel support would require an installation, so I haven't ruled it out. But I'm not currently working on the program, and don't plan to do much in the foreseeable future aside from keeping it up to date with game changes.
