The drawback is much like guild ships. The new ships are nice and the buffs great - and you can 1 click them for convenience. But in the name of conveneince, after you run throught he ship once, how often do you truly go back and "enjoy" the content? In our guild everyone goes to the cargo or deck where the AH, Tavern and mailbox are located. No sight-seeing.
What set an area like the portable hole apart was uniqueness + convenience + utility. Not too big. Hall of Heroes, ithink, tried to be some of what is proposed in here but it really has missed the mark up to now. Even with its recent changes it is not "easy enough" or "convenient enough" for players to justify the expense. So, for a new area, along the line of what you describe, it is hard to envision it being used *if* it does not have uniqueness + convenience + utility.
Once upon a time you had to go to different trainers depending on your level. If we still had that and we could have a themed area where all the trainers are located, that would meet the mix I am talking about. However, given you can raise up any level at any trainer now, that element is lost.
I suggested in PC14, for example, that the devs make buffs from places like House P, House J, Amarath available in the HoH. Needless to say, that didn't happen - at least not yet.
