Default New Item Suggestion: Dead Man's Switch

Ok, so this is just taking the idea of "Uncaring Master" one step further. If the dog is just a tool, which you can rebuild later, it only goes to reason that eventually, an uncaring master is going to plant explosives in his dog. (Note, this does not come in a form that would work for Druid Dogs)

    Item Type: Docent
    Race Absolutely Required: Warforged/Artificer Defender
    Min Level: 8

This docent is build containing a dead-man's switch inside, connected with high explosives. When the bearer of this docent is destroyed, an explosive charge of 10d(Min Level of the Docent) is activated, affecting a standard AoE radius, and potentially blinding those in the area of effect (Reflex Save equal to 10+Min Level of the docent).

Purple Augment: (Pre-slotted with Heavy Fortification)

    Green Augment: (initially empty)

(note: the damage and reflex saves are based on the item's min level. This min level can be increased using higher-powered augment slots, making this potentially useful at higher levels as well)

I kind of like this idea. Kinda.

But in this time of real-world suicide bombing, adding one in the game brings up unfortunate implications.

It would have to have some substantial penalty for use, say, once per player-day. It would then make the docent's det-pack a desperation measure, not a tactical one.

And I would only allow it to work on a mech-dog, not a player character, because of the theme.

And, while the cooldown is in progress, the docent has some penalty to the dog. I know the Uncaring Master is designed to use your pets wisely, but it's not the pet I'm worried about but giving the Master too much power.

I hate to cross reality with gaming, since playing for fun is what we want to do here. But I don't want the harshness of reality to get all "GTA" in this game.

Completely understand. I could definitely get behind restricting it completely to the Dog and not to player characters (though, strangely enough, there is a Cleric enhancement that triggers an AoE blast upon death... I always wondered if anyone ever actually used that enhancement).

I guess my feeling behind it was just that the dog (since it is just a tool and not a living creature), then it would be no more gruesome than setting a fireball trap. But again, I could understand the sentiments that would put restrictions on it like you mentioned.

I like the idea and think it's pretty funny but a green and a purple slot for a min level 8 docent seems excessive. Maybe if it were epic... and death released a demolition charge...

Not generally by choice. But my static group does like to mess with me when it's my turn to heal them , and Dre has a tendency to ag the entire dungeon when possible and diplo them all onto my cleric...
