    Default Introduce a variety of game mode and handicaps at character creation

    As the title says. At character creation you got options to chose from, such as ''Permadeath'' or ''Scavenger(no trade/Ah/vendor)'' etc.

    Enforce these mechanically and give the characters a badge, like an icon next to their names or in their buff bars on description so that we can identify one an other.

    I wonder if it is possible to do this from the engineering standpoint

    From an engineering standpoint, yes, I'm sure it's possible, however, from a social standards viewpoint, I don't think it is.

    One permadeath group has one set of rules, another has another set. If I was playing permadeath and I got hit with a major lag spike at level 6 and when I reconnected, my guy was dead, I wouldn't count it as a delete-worthy death. Someone else might say a death is a death and delete the character immediately. Also, personally, if I was permadeath and my guy died, I'd transfer anything good that I had got to another of my non-permadeath characters before deleting him.

    I died to lag spikes in Diablo 2 Hardcore mode. But once I started playing that mode, never did I play Softcore again. It's a risk worth taking to some players, it makes the game so much more entertaining! And for me, I never joined a PD group on DDO for that reason you mentioned. People will die to lag, or mistakes, then just respawn. And I don't blame them, I'd ''cheat'' too given those circumstances, because I guess I don't have the sheer will to press the delete button on a perfectly live and playable character. Yet if it was scripted, I'd take my chances immediatly.

    A. Unnecessary
    B. They would break so much trying to implement it, the game would literally become unplayable.
    C. Want to play by those rules? Then do so. You don't need a mechanical crutch to do so, and if you do, then you dont' really want to play by those rules.

    You could just make up the rules you want to play by, and then play by them. Not too long ago as an experiment a guildie and I tried a new set of very limiting rules that was quite fun...We rolled up fresh 32 point characters but we couldn't use the AH, brokers, twink gear, hirelings, etc...plus you could only carry equipment that your character could realistically carry...We limited it to any three of a weapon and/or shield (ex. a sword, mace and shield, or two swords and a bow, etc). You couldn't run around with extra suits of armor, ten swords, etc. Quite often we had to leave stuff in chests because you couldn't carry it. This system was fun at lower levels, but as you get to higher levels, wand whipping yourself back to full health just really slowed the game down, and the sheer number of different mobs that require different weapons ended up having us abandon the limitations, but it was a fun challenge and breathed new life into the game for us.

    In any event, my point is that the developers don't need to add artificial mechanics. You just need an agreement between the people you play with on what the rules will be.

    It's all good in theory but not so much in practice. People cheat. It's also about accomplishment and bragging rights. When I made reference with Diablo 2, it was the same thing. People could have made up their own rules, but it's just not the same. Anywayzzz...

    I think its a cool idea. Maybe a little icon next to your name to so other players can see you have similar playing styles.

    BUT--I also agree it would probably screw up so much implementing.

    Every character I make I play a scavenger. (have to admit, first time I heard it called that, good enough for me though). I find it makes the game a lot more rewarding. However, I do buy a few things along the way like storage bags, portable hole, and maybe a required tome so I can cast spells. With out bags of holding this game is just too messy.

    Normal you never heard it before, I just invented it lol... I'm sure there could be more playstyles, I just couldn't think of others than these two. And truth be told, I've no idea how complicated it might be for the developpers to implement a suggestion like this. All I know is I saw it elsewhere and was quite popular and I've love to see this in DDO.
