Help clarify some things about cosmetics

If I make a cosmetic orb will it show up if i have any type of off-hand weapon or shield equipped or do I actually have to have an orb equipped for it to show up? I'm confused because when I was about to use a mirror of glamering on an orb it said that is was a off-hand/shield cosmetic.
And is it possible to wear, and have displayed, a cosmetic set of goggles and a helm at the same time?

I do not have a cosmetic orb, but I do have a cosmetic shield and main hand weapon.

When I equipped a madstone orb, my shield cosmetic did not show.

When I changed the main hand weapon cosmetic to my other hand, it did not show.

So if you have an orb in your hand, your cosmetic shield or one handed weapon does not show.

Apologies if this elsewhere however my search-fu has failed me.

If I use an Orb cosmetic will it cover up a Buckler, (barnacled buckler in this case). (I really like the blue shield flash when an orb bashes...)
