Feeling horribly Noobish..

Hi All,
I am a recently retuning player to DDO and starting playing in '06. That being said with all the new content that has come about since my departure a few years ago, I'm having issues setting up my Monk again. The only one not deleted off my account (Really bad wife aggro ) is a Drow 1st life monk. currently lvl16.
the new enhancement trees are very interesting and i've always wanted a thrower. Enter the Shuricannon.
i however are not clear on building this from a 1st life perspective.
Firewall , I would be honored to join the "dojo" if you could provide guidance. Any Advice is welcome and appreciate from all.

As a first-lifer i would start with 8/20/12/10/14/10 attribute distribution. At level 2 with the newly introduced champions i would tend to take the Toughness feat instead of Deflect Arrows in heroic levels. At level 18 you can decide if you want to go the DPS-path with Precision (Shuricannon 2.0) or the defensive way with Combat Expertise (Shuricannon 1.0).

Not sure how you fare in terms of tomes and other equipment. The first thing you need is the Shadow Star from the Shan-to-kor quest line. You can get it as one of the quest chain endrewards. Second thing i would try to get is the Mask of Comedy from the House P Carnival quest chain. When you have access to the Cult of the six quest chain you can try to get the Snowstar in higher levels. If you can try to craft/buy/find yourself a Seeker +8 Kama or shortsword for the offhand and/or something with Tendon Slice.
Also nice to have is the Staff of Nat Gann if you need to bash down doors etc.

The builds are usually optimized for epic play so you might want to put some skill points in jump and wear a STR item in early levels for carrying capacity depending on tomes etc.

That said, they do offer an undelete service now if you can remember your old account/character information - if any of your old chars were worth the expense.

welcome back. the drow pure monk is a pretty solid build. I had lots of fun with it and its very viable as a 1st lifer. Firewall did a fine job putting it together. I followed his build advice pretty much to the letter. it was with this build that I decided to get into crafting. it doesn't take long to get to viable crafting levels. I bought a few 100% crafting experience pots from the store to hurry it along. its also useful to craft monster specific shurks. silver of undead bane and adamantine of construct bane to name a couple. I found the hamstring/seeker kamas very useful as well in your offhand. The snowstar is a pretty nice shurk for most everything tho. unfortunately there are not a lot of shurks out there. keep your eye on the auction house and the merchants in the marketplace. this is where I found all my silver and addy shurks to craft on. you can also find a lvl 14 shurk with undead bane and other goodies on it on the AH. you can also run challenges in eveningstar for other shurks but they are random. im not a fan of random myself or challenges for that matter.

after this life give the 12monk/5wiz/3rogue thrower build a look. u can find the build on the forums. not going to go into which one is the best. they are both a lot of fun IMO.

Kinda off topic, i have raider chests(?) as well and i heard Andipode (sp) and Celestia should be taken from these right? Again thanx for the guidance

Not antipode! Anyway hold off on those raid chests until you feel the game again and find your groove. No rush.

I would take Saekee's advice and wait until you found out if the thrower playstyle is fun for you. Celestia still is one of the best offhand weapons for throwers but it has a Minimum Level of 23 so it will be a while until you can use it anyway.

Maybe one more tip. Since you are level 16 now you can start running the Wheloon Prison quest chain. The static endrewards from the quest are very powerful for their level and all are Minimum Level 15.

Especially the Skirmisher's Bracers from Army of Shadows are really nice.
