    Default combat log annoyances

Well, the combat log been a long time peeve of mine. With the recent champions killing me all the time, what I find most annoying isn't the arbitrary computer generated randomness, but the darn combat log.
I can't go back to see what the heck killed me, to learn from my mistakes, to improve, to change strategy.

Can we get a longer log? With better detail and descriptions? Can't even match the damage numbers flying in the screen with the log. It doesn't even log what type of damage killed me or how much damage it did. You have to watch the floaty numbers and guess what it was.

If there is slightly more benevolence, perhaps the log can be color coded to represent attack vs defense, to highlight mob name, highlight damage numbers... but I'm not holding my breath. Just fix the log to be accurate and informative first. We can do the parsing ourselves at least.

While I agree the combat log is a bit difficult to find good info from time to time I don't think making it longer is a good change.

Lag combat log can cause massive lag when all the madness that scrolls thru there gets intense.

Problems I've been seeing since the update is a lot of DNR scrolling thru my log.
I have not pinned down what effect is causing it.

I think the problem you may be having with the log is so much scrolls they at once especially when you die. A long list of X buff removed from you etc etc pushes the important death info off the log.

It's difficult to even stop and view the log as constant buffs and effects keep it scrolling upwards and off the log.

Would it be better for the player if the log was longer and could be viewed easier? Yes
Would it cause more lag? Yes

I'd rather live without the lag and cope with the current log.

Me too but I can't see adding some colour coding adding to the lag - it would be client-side. Also, if they just stopped the scrolling while you're reading it it would be a huge quality of life change. Again, no extra lag involved.

^That!!^ It would be great if that log could be more customizable/refineable. If I could, I would probably have two Combat log tabs, one for incoming damage, one for out going. Such a set up would make it so much easier to find what important/relevant info I'm looking for.

But still, at least give me a way to just filter out the "Effect Removed" carp, please?

I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.
I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.
Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...

Doesn't sound like that hard a programming change.
Not sure why there would be more lag for a longer buffer though. There isn't any more net traffic. And the text log is just stored on your local pc, might use more RAM but I don't see how text uses much at all...

Personally I think it's just a lack of caring about that type of game play, the traditional dnd where each attack sequence is important and planned out. Ddo is pushing us towards arcade style play...

The more we drift from dnd aspects the less I'll want to play, I just becomes another mmo.

It'd be nice if we had options available for the combat log to show what to report. Some options could be like report treasure effect damage from weapons or condense all damage numbers into a big number. Maybe like customizing chat tabs by right-clicking to show what type of chat to display (i.e. guild, tells, NPC dialogue, etc.). No one needs to know all the effects removed when you die.
