Anyone Play on an HP or Dell Desktop?

My son plays some and the machine he plays on is about to bite the dust. I was going to find him a good used Dell off of Craigslist. Even if I have to put in a cheap low profile card it would be cheaper than me building him another machine.

I have a Dell XPS 8100 and I've been happy with it. Dell used to load up the machines with lots of crapware, but they've been doing less of that lately. It'll perhaps be less of an issue if you buy used.

I use an HP 3.0 GHz, 4Gig Ram, 750GB HD and it works good.
Also cost about $100, you might want to keep looking around. I bought it from Amazon. Craigs list may not be that reliable.

1Gb Video is a must, and for about $50 you can get a half-height fan-less card that will fit the case.

Yep, same here, also have 4gb ram atm.

Unfortunately I'm experiencing100% cpu usage approx 30 seconds to 1 minute after DDO starts which completely lags me out for 10 seconds at a time every 30 seconds or so.

Having performed every diagnostic possible, cleaned my hardrive, defragged it so now I only have 1 fragmented file, checked for adware, malware, viruses, removed everything I can from the startup menu, its still doing it.

I have a nasty feeling that my Nvidia 610 GPU has failed, it can't be a heat thing as the fan is still spinning, the computer runs fine in a 2D environment. As soon as I start a game which involves 3D everything slows right down, hence the 100% cpu usage as the primary processors are doing everything for the game, at least thats what I think is happening.

Btw, a little tip if your not using it already, add

/3GB /Userva=3030

to the last line of your boot.ini file after the /fastdetect and it will stop you crashing when entering explorer areas.
