    Default Critting the undead?

A friend and I have noticed something strange when going through deleras tomb. We've been critting the undead. It doesn't happen often, but we've checked our gear and our enhancements, nothing we have provides any fortification reduction.

I'm a lv10 paladin and he's a lv10 ranger, is there something we have that might make us crit? Its all kinds of undead too, archers, warriors, even the arcane. Its rare, but it happens. Mostly for him.

(Party: [Party] XXXXXXX: (Combat): You roll to confirm a critical on Delera Omaren. You roll a 16 (+27): Critical Hit!
(Party: [Party] XXXXXXX: (Combat): You hit Delera Omaren for 116 points of slash damage.

actually you can always crit undead. its just that in most circumstances for most people (less so recently) undead have had 100% fortification. that means that a burst weapon still gives you extra on crit damage, but the multiplied first number damage is resisted. trapsmith buff gives you 5% fort bypass, resulting in 5% more (in the circumstances you listed, 5% more than 0% :/...) of your crits getting additional first number damage.

contrary to apparently popular belief, undead in ddo arent actually "immune" to crits, they just resist them.

sneak attack is a different story though.
You are but a lamb, ignorant of your own ignorance. You no longer interest me.
