I am a new player as of the Black Friday sale during Thanksgiving and had only started characters on half the servers so far. I thought the cards were going to continue but am disappointed to now find out that I missed out on crunching cards because they went away with the new update. There should be a courtesy announcement as part of the Update process to inform players of things that will expire as new Updates are patched.

It was announced that the cards would only function during the event when first released, they were later extended, & finally ended with due warning.

cards should have never went live duping cards was known & reported on Lamania.

O.o? I wasn't aware brand new accounts were getting Anniversary Boxes (in fact, I'm pretty sure you weren't supposed to get one - bonus for you!) So I'm curious: after reaching level 4, and opening your Box, what cards did you get? I mean, it's not like you could roll for more so you didn't miss out on crunching much...

Check your character inventory for a "D&D Red Box" and use it to collect classic Dungeons & Dragons cards from the Deck of Many Prizes. Collect, trade, and combine the cards, exchange them for cool rewards, and view the card art in the new Image Gallery! The D&D Red Box is available throughout the month of March! Clicking on the D&D Red Box creates a Magical d20 into your inventory. Using the d20 (once per day per account) will give you a card (two cards for VIP!) Double-click on the "card cruncher" to open a UI where you can place your cards, and get cool stuff!"

Duping should definitely have been taken into consideration when designing the Anniversary gift.

But they don't just dupe cards... It's not that cards shouldn't have been released. It's that Turbine need to adjust, and do something about it.

I'm sure some people didn't hear about this, but in addition to the forums, I saw it mentioned in general, guild and channel chats in the last week or so as people were trying to finish crunching. While it sucks that you missed the news, it's hard to fault turbine for you not knowing.

Yeah, you make a good point. There should at least be an announcement (in the DDO launcher) the week or two before the update or included in the text as in: Thursday, Decemeber 11 Downtime to install Update 24! NOTICE, upon installation of update 24, any and all anniversary cards can no longer be used to combine for recipes. They will now only be available to add to the image gallery.

Yes cards should not have been released as a highly dupable source of store only items.

Sure turbine needs to fix duping but, in the mean time not handing out items that can easily be duped and traded that provide 50% XP pots as well as raid bypass timers would have been a better move.

Giving us a classic birthday style box with BTC rewards would have been much less damaging to the game.

I know a lot of people that spent money on this event between subscribing to get twice as many cards to creating new premium accounts (4 character slots) with level 4 characters, etc. And maybe people traded TP / items for more cards.

Only the creation of cards was limited to 1 month. By all evidence (given previous Anniversary gifts that did not expire and the intricacy of the card system), we could stockpile huge numbers of cards that would last at least a year to the next event which would probably give more cards.

Nice. I was one of the very lucky winners of the ddocast lottery. Haven't had much time to play in the past 6 months and haven't checked the forums in the past two. At least those 900 cards don't weigh much in my inventory.

I just received an email advertising their Update 24 Sales event. I do not need to spend any money on Sales items when they can not send mail to notify me of Game Changes!

I do not have to spend money on their Festivals or to buy items to make playing easier. Just like they do not have to notify me of Game Play changes.

I only read the release Notes. Rarely read the Forums or Twitter. Only when DDO breaks.

I just opened a Box on a brand new character. More GARBAGE from lack of Notification. They do have eMail to all players?

Players deserve better guidance and in this game there is none.

Events:
Anniversary Cards and future card recipes are now linked to their events, which means that the recipes created by combining various cards will only be available when the event is active. Anniversary Cards can no longer be used to make Anniversary Card recipes.


And in the last nine months, you never took time to read any one of the multiple thread about cards?

The guidance has been there for those that take the time to find guidance or ask any person in game.

This is in NO WAY Turbine's fault - you're in the wrong place for handholding.

I agree, they should have put the announcement on the launcher. However, they did announce this in many places in the past month. Turbine did enough to put the word out. Players have also been talking about it constantly the past month. And you've had almost a year to use your cards.

Sorry if you missed out but you should check the news occasionally. Or atleast glace at the forums once in a while or the pre-release notes. MMOs are ever changing. This change had to be made to stop abuse, it was doing severe harm to the game.

You're a new player as of the black friday sale?? You didnt even get a card cruncher lol. You were excluded ether way.

My job has severe ups and downs. Some times I don't have extra hours to play DDO. However I still log in once a week to do my VIP Gold roll, read the chronicle, check the sales and read any notifications on the launcher. I do this in case there is something important that I need to know about the game. Like, for example, something I spent a good amount of time and a few million plat bartering for and was really looking forward to saving and using when need arose.

If they are going to have a news section, and a launcher feed, then they should USE them! Saying its our fault because we didn't read the forums or we didn't play enough in November and December is really ridiculous. This is not the same thing as tweaking cookies or cakes for balance. This is a HUGE benefit that is now useless. I had enough cards for about 200 Major Slayer boosts. That equates to 600 hours of gameplay loss... Granted I probably would have spread that over the next 2 or 3 years, but now that's completely toast. That single item made slayer tons of fun again, now every time I go out slaying I get to thank turbine that I will have to spend 3x more to get the same benefit.

My complaint about this is the lack of notifications through ANY channel other than forum. I should not have to read the form to stay up to date, I don't have that kind of time. The only reason I'm on the forum now is because I'm hoping if enough people take issue they will turn the cards back on. I don't want them back on permanently. I just want the chance to use what I earned. I don't think that is an unfair request. Hell, even limit it to 100 crunches or something. I couldn't use ALL my cards, but at least I could get something out of it. At this point I used maybe 14 of the several hundred cards I gathered and traded for.
