Thank you thank you.
Thank you thank you.
Another down day again? This is just a suggestion that I think many ddo players will agree upon. How about FIXING the problems you already have instead of worrying about making more money by releasing another update. Kinda funny to think that ddo is not realizing that more and more people are leaving for other games because they refuse to fix in game issues but would love to sell you another expansion to the game so you can have more bugs to complain about.
Worlds are open. I just played 30 min on Thelanis.
Could not log in earlier today - hours later the "fix" now has allowed me to log in only to find the game lags like crazy and is unplayable; quests just freeze up.
This is the problem. Each time there is an update the additional code add complexity to the existing code. For each change in these updates that add new features or change interactions with xyz there are unintended results. It happens every time. Some of these new bugs are quickly fixed, others linger for years. He is not the first or the last to make this point.
If Turbine took six months to a year off adding new content and instead focused on cleaning up the current code I personally believe the bulk of the player base would be grateful. A few long term bugs, stuck spots, lag and other major problems may be able to be addressed.
Day to day issues still will need to be addressed, events run, etc. however, even taking all that into account the dev team should be able to address many problems if adding content was removed as a priority until some of these issues are addressed. Who knows, having a more stable, playable game may actually get more people willing to spend more money and even pull more people into the game.
Game has to make money to stay afloat. 6-12 months of no new content is out of the question - they can't afford it. DDO and Turbine has to make money and continue to grow to survive.
It's a tough balance...fixing bugs / cleaning up code doesn't bring in any money directly. I'm sure there are yearly/quarterly profit goals that DDO and other Turbine games are required by Turbine to hit. I understand the dilemma. It's a tough task but from all the problems they've had recently they somehow have to find room in the budget for more dev hours devoted towards performance issues. These issues are clearly getting out of hand.
I hadn't played much DDO this week and was looking forward to playing on Friday after a long work day. I admit I was very disappointed that the servers were down...again. Devs please find a way to focus more on these issues. If update 24 needs to be delayed, so be it.

People have been saying that people are leaving in great numbers for 8+ years and yet the game is still here and still (IMHO) the best of the games out there. Still has thousands of people playing and no proof that huge numbers are leaving (in fact the evidence shows they are not). Since the problem wasn't just DDO but all of Turbine's games it doesn't take a Kalashtar (sp?) to realize that the current projected updates or the last update have nothing to do with the current problem. But people love to feel entitled and to yell, moan and gripe so words of wisdom will be overlooked as usual.
Was in EN Deathwyrm. Made if to the dragon. Went to shadow side. Didn't make it into a portal. Lagged out, ganged by shadows. Died. 30 min waiting. Booted from game. Log back in. Doesn't even make it to character selection. Hangs up on "cleaning up old connection. "
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm
You are correct to a point. While new content brings an influx of cash with people rushing to buy the new shiny toy it also has a cost as you pointed out. With out seeing the turbine income streams I obviously am only speculating, however I am guessing if vip offers were made say special bonus points on vip for 6 mos or lower cost on vip for 6 mos or other deals. Additional funds could be added through deals on popular consumables during this time.
You are correct in saying turbine is a business and needs to make money. If the game does not make a constant influx of money through its various income streams the game gets shut down. However, if the player base becomes so frustrated with the constant problems between lag, bugs, and down time, at some point so many players will have left or have bad mouthed the game across the net that regardless of any advertising, or new content the game will be doomed.
Balance is important where does that balance sit? I couldn't say I want to see the game successful but each time an update happens bringing days of crippling lag, log in issues new bugs, old bugs that continue to get ignored, and an increasingly frustrated player base I worry that this game maybe coming to the end of its life. I really hope not, but every program reaches the end of its SDLC at some point. I personally believe that the players would accept not getting new content for a brief time and even add support in the ddo store and vip in order to get the game less buggy if that message was sent to the player base and followed up with results. If results didn't follow though it would after asking the players to pony up more cash it would likely cause even more players to quit. Like you said a balance.
Was playing Friday night with my usual guildy's after a load issue couldn't get back in. Haven't been able to log-in for more than one load screen or 10 minutes since Friday night.
Any update on when this may be fixed? Frustrating to miss weekend playing time like this.
Thank you!
Cordovan, is there someone who can tell us why there is a lack of transparency on these down times? Knowing when they occur is critical and all, but retention will be a lot easier if people know what is causing the downtime. Even if it is as silly as someone pushed a build to the wrong server and brought everything down.
