Angry Is Akamai required to play game?

I reinstalled and akamai would autostart and make an exception for itself through my firewall. I believe we were told it was only needed for downloads. I removed it because it was causing too much lag and using too much of my cpu, making it difficult at times. This was on Dec. 1. Now, I can login to game, choose my character, but then infinite load time on load screen. No dc or time-out. Just hangs there doing nothing. And if Akamai is blocked through firewalls, it causes connection issues with chat servers btw. This is very suspicious activity after what was discussed as far as Akamai goes.

You need it for the initial download. After that there is a check box in the launch to tell it not to use akami anymore. You can then uninstall it. I've been playing without akami on my system for however long it's been since they made that change. (Around 8 months I think)

well I reinstalled the game for technical issues, along with akamai. I removed it yesterday, and now ddo nor lotro will work. ddo gets to load screen and just hangs there. Lotro won't even connect to servers now. I have not changed anything else.

I don't have Akamai installed on my PC ( I had to install it for the initial download after I built the PC, but I have purged it from my system since then ) and I can play without any problem.
What do you have in the files :
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher\DNDLauncher.log

( remove your user account before posting it, it should appears in the 3rd line of the file : GameClientStarter::OnLoginAccountRequestDone - User Name: <account> )

    and in :

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\dndclient.log

they might help you troubleshoot the problem you encounter.

Well here you have your error... The SSL Certificate used to log in is corrupt.

I don't know exactly where they hide these certificates, but at a guess I'd say that you should try the following :

    - in C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\Backup you will find backup files of the DDO exe.

    try the following :

    - replace the TurbineLauncher.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited\ by the one found in the Backup directory and try to launch the game.

If that doesn't work do the same thing with :

    - turbineclientlauncher.exe

If that doesn't work do the same thing with :

    - dndclient.exe

After that you can look at the files you have in the Backup directory and try them one by one... most of them are DLLs ( at least on my install )

Each time the Launcher will probably download the right file from the patch server. ( I just hope it won't reinstall akamai )

Edit : you might ask Turbine Support, since it's something that happens ( I had it once, and solved by reinstalling... that was before Akamai ) they might know exactly what needs to be done.
