Ok, ever since I saw the scene in Beyond the Rift where the Spinner became "one with Lolth" I thought that someone must have run out of time/money to do a proper quest or raid to deal with the spinner, and that scene was cobbled together at the last minute for the Menace of the Underdark expansion release. Though I honestly can't figure out why.
I mean, a Demon Lord is released from prison and the first thing she does is go, "Here, have my power" to the first bigger spider she finds? No, sorry. Demon Lords don't do that. They get even with somebody for imprisoning them in the first place. Becoming one with Lolth can wait until later. A proper quest to deal with her could have, too. Maybe I just really, really like the Spinner of Shadows as an enemy and am disappointed she has only one quest and a lame ending.
Now I can see Lolth tricking the Spinner and essentially consuming her power... like she will eventually attempt to do with the Thread of the Weave, and I think that would even be cool, but that didn't happen.
So..... here is what we need to do.
1. Remove that scene from Beyond the Rift. We'll just pretend it didn't happen.
2. After Lolth's defeat, the Spinner reconsiders her declaration that she has no need for the Other Overlords or the tedious Lords of Dust.
3. So she abandons Lolth and begins work attempting to free the Overlord that we already happen to know is imprisoned in the Vale of Twilight.
4. The Gatekeepers need some help in dealing with the Spinner. Can you say flagging quest(s) and new raid?
This makes the Gatekeepers are a new faction to gain favor with.
I would seriously consider revising favor given by Dreams of Insanity and The Path to Madness/Xorian Cipher from House J to the Gatekeepers.
This sets up some other cool things we could do back in Eberron.
First thing, I would make revision of Threnal and a new Return to Threnal a top priority. (Return to Threnal becomes a new epic quest pack.)
There is a gaping portal to Xoriat there. The Gatekeepers would not like it. Perhaps it was one they patched up a long time ago.
A Daelkyr lord that makes Belashyrra and Orlassk look like fighting little schoolgirls is about to come through.
Raid time! Again!
Next, messing around with ancient sealed gates and portals in the area of the Vale could attract more attention from Shavarath. Lots of people have been wanting epic vale... I'd prefer a new set of quests set near the vale all originally designed for epic play to start with.
And I think all of this could be done without a single epic wolf, rat, bat, or bear trap to be seen anywhere, and be a little more true to DDO's Eberron origins.
I would pay good DDO points for stuff like this.
Anauroch? Meh.
