Default Seriously??? Wave at the Mirror???

I entered one the new quests and, while I didn't get too far into it, what I've seen so far really is awful! First of all the character becomes a slave of the Lord of Stone or (I assume) Lord of Eyes - It is a tremendous turn off for me to call a pseudo-god "Master." Then, if that's not bad enough, he sends me to look for a mirror and a couple of other trinkets. I assume there is a reason for this within the story line, but at this point it just seems stupid. Next, I walk into a room and my reflection waves at me and I'm expected to wave back. Its like a tutorial in using emotes - In a lvl 18 quest!!! that would be nifty in Korthos, but not in a lvl 18 quest. - feels like im a character in a children's book. that's all I could take at the moment - the Dojo finally opened up and I switched characters to test the Barbarian.

    I was extremely disappointed!!!

I will try it again and run the quest, however painful it might be, to the end. But at this point, I have very low expectations.

Yep, exactly. I'm not one that cares much about storyline, but I always liked the Xoriat quests because they had a great storyline AND challenge. If these new ones go along the same lines, I will love them.

I would like to hear more about difficulty. Will a first life Pally be soloing it on EE on their first run through, or will it take a couple run throughs to learn the quest?

    I am curious . . .

Does it sound very awesome to be a slave to the Lord of Stone or does it sound awesome to wave at your reflection in the mirror.

And perhaps its the "VERRRY Xoriat" thing that makes me dislike it. I'm not really a fan of any of the Xoriat stuff in general and I wasn't real excited for it to be the subject for the new quests.

I will give it a try again this weekend as well the fashion show one. Hopefully, if nothing else, the loot will make them worth it.

It is so hard to play these quests sometimes. Why now we have to do more than sit there and hold down the attack button. Horrors!

Okay kidding aside, I think I hate being forced to listen to Elminster every life more than hitting a few keystrokes on my keyboard. If we're lucky they'll give us emote commands for our hotbars. If we're especially lucky they will link up to the correct emotes.

The quest is different and I enjoyed it. It is verrry Xorriat as was previously mentioned. I would imagine you'll hate the other parts of the quest even more if using a few emotes that are are much in line with the storyline bothered you. Part of it is very puzzle centric.

Not really sure why a dislike for being a slave of the pseudo god and standing in front a mirror being force to wave at oneself in order to advance the quest means that I must only want quests that require holding down the attack key. I like variety in my questing - just not this kind of variety. And if this is a required set of actions every time you run the quest, I doubt it will get any more enjoyable - but I guess i'm about to find out. The live servers are down so I think im gonna head on in and see how this goes to the end.

OR maybe I wont. It appears the issues with the live servers are bleeding over into lam as well. Been waiting a while at the splash screen switching characters. Oh well - this may be for another day.

I think it is great that Turbine is attempting to place some flavor into the occasional quest. A bit like the Three Barrel Cove quest, Prove Your Worth, where you use certain conversation skills during key points of the boss fight. Without little additions like these the game is very much an attack-only game.

Regardless I put the "kidding aside" in the second sentence of that post for a good reason.

I think there should be some more random non combat interactions that spurn unexpected results directed or non.

Yeah - they certainly can add to the quest - the way I saw it work in this particular quest, im not sure compares to Prove's boss fight. Another example of this to me is Crucible where different skills can aid in different ways in the quest.

I did read the entire post. I knew you were kidding. Just because you were kidding doesn't excuse from a comeback.

My post probably came across as if you offended me. I wasn't offended. I too was just kidding around.

I agree with this. My dis-satisfaction with the mirror interaction is not with the fact I didn't have anyone to smash.. It was that it felt like a tutorial on how to emote - which seems really odd in a high level quest. It also seems like it may be required to go thought that to move forward in the quest. It wasn't a random thing at all. Since one of the items I was looking for was a mirror, I was under assumption this was the mirror I was looking for and was going to have to have to go through this to continue each and every time I ran the quest. that is not a great mechanic in my opinion. However, I may be wrong in that assumption as well. I need to run the entire quest.

On the other hand - I would welcome more randomness in the quests - not just in interactions. I wish the puzzles were random. I wish the monster locations in quests were not fixed. I wish stuff like a Cry for help sometimes had a real damsel in distress that needed rescued and sometimes had a evil tiger faced guy pretending to the damsel. You don't know what you are walking into until you get there.

of course, I would imagine that much randomness would be a nightmare to code. Such is life in a online game.

It certainly helps in both situations that we aren't forced to type a command into the chat box. If the game offered buttons we could drag onto our hotbars, or activate from a window selector, this might not be as bad but I don't think Turbine thought quite that far ahead.

I definitely agree though that Crucible is an excellent example of a quest.

I am a bit quick to jump to that conclusion. I really should know better after having browsed these forums for so long.

I was waving my sword at the mirror and it didn't do anything. So I tried cleave, still nothing. I had to recall and pull up the wiki. There is no wiki page for this quest! Guess I'll have to do something else. Thanks turbine.
