If I don’t pre-purchase the expansion, can I still buy the pre-purchase items at a later time?


The following item colors will not be available in the DDO Store after the pre-purchase period ends on June 24th 2012, nor will they appear in future expansion bundles:
Demonweb Spiderling Creature Companion
Druid’s Wolf Pup Creature Companion
Onyx Panther Cub Creature Companion


Notice how it doesn't even say panther hireling or the spider mask.


I've read a lot of past MotU threads, and still have not come across a post from a DDO employee stating that the panther hireling is exclusive.

The following question was asked back in 2012 but no answer was made by a DDO employee.

QUESTION about the pre-order packs:

The Limited Time Collector's Edition pre-order package comes with the Figurine of Wonderous Power: Onyx Panther. This Onyx Panther behaves like a Gold Seal hireling, and will join your group when summoned.

As I have read, this particular Gold Seal hireling never goes away - it is permanent.

I've recently read and noticed that no where in the FAQ or the MotU pre-order ads does it say that the Figurine of Wonderous Power: Onyx Panther is exclusive.

So, is it safe to presume that the same, permanent Figurine of Wonderous Power: Onyx Panther will be available at some point in the DDO Store? Or, will this be a lesser version, perhaps one that is NOT permanent, and would expire just as any other hireling?

If you read the text, all the companions were explicitly stated exclusive and only available for pre-order purchase. The panther hireling and spider mask does not have this text. Since it is not there, it is reasonable to assume that these items are not exclusive.

Also, the last phrase of not being able to buy the exclusive items later. Great. I don't want to buy the companions anyways.

What I don't like is people saying it should not be for sale since it is exclusive when that is clearly not the case.

I agree. Your post, which mirrors almost exactly an earlier one, clearly shows the Mask and Onyx Lynx were in the pre-order bundle but not exclusive. The Turbine team specifically calls out the exclusive nature of the first three line items, but not the latter two. As I wrote in my earlier post, Turbine already has a history of putting non-exclusive items from pre-order bundles into their store. (Other examples include Star-lit Crystals and Crystals of Remembrance.)

You can "read the text" 500 times. But if you read "ALL OF THE TEXT" even once, you'd realize that the onyx panther was meant to be exclusive. I'm all for another pet, but let it be one of hundreds of different monsters... maybe even one that isnt in the game yet at all.

You are making an interpretation, which is fine. It was exclusive. Were you here during this time? Those of us that were, were pretty dang clear it was only being offered until a certain date. It even stated the item was only available for a LIMITED TIME. 2+ years later does not cut it as LIMITED TIME.

I bought the expansion and have the little guy.

I wouldn't care if it was made available.

But...

If they did make it available, the next time something was "exclusive" for pre-order maybe I'd consider that exclusive isn't so exclusive and maybe that's the thing that makes me wait and let others check out the new stuff before I decide if I'm going to buy.

So it would probably be a pretty silly move to go back on, if not a statement of, at least an implication of exclusivity and limited nature of pre-purchase enticement swag.

I fall into the opinion that it was exclusive, it should not be given again. That sort of goes against the whole exclusive limited offer thing. So how about making something similar in power, non casting.

That's just the way things go if you didn't pre-order for whatever reason then you don't ger the pre-order bonus otherwise why have a pre-order bonus if they did it now they would have a lot of people screaming fraud and crying for a refund or some kind of compensation including myself

I can understand that, i was just explaining my want of it. already said if they could make another creature for people like myself who want a pet hireling as such to purchase. and i notice in your later post you pasted all items that were available in the package. is the Druid pup not available for all who have Evening star ? You get it as a favor reward.

I would also like to have more options for permanent hirelings or companions creatures that are actually useful. At the same time, the previously released exclusives are just that, exclusive and should not be offered.

One option that I would think appropriate would be something like the iron defender. The code exists and and it provides some build flexibility. It also helps that it scales with player lever. There could be a variety to choose from.

Mind you, this does expand the solo player's party quite a bit. Hireling, gold seal hireling, pet and summon. That's 5 including the player. Right now you have to be a Druid or artificer to do that. So, really it is just expanding the options of player character to go that way.

Ugh, I have the Panther but I waited too long to claim my spiderling so didn't get it. I wish I had pre-ordered Shadowfell because I would love those Owlbears. I upgraded to Legendary after the fact but got the Turbine Points, which was better than nothing. If they haven't reissued the Panther and it's been what, two years? They're not going to (I don't think). We'll probably just see permanent hirelings with future expansions but likely something other than what's already been released.
