    Default Launcher / Install fail

I can't get DDO to install on my new computer new, every time it fully installs then when it goes to open (on selecting a server) it crashes with
"Can't open the data files. Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. The program will now exit. [201]"

What's up with this? I've completely uninstalled it, re-downloaded a fresh installer, and tried several times...

Had this problem to this is how I resolved it:

    1. show hidden files

    2. delete from startup safeweb something it screws your proxy

    3. restart run installer again might need to turn off firewall

    4. if your installer is taking longer then there is progress

There are no dat files because akamai can not install them...

I will check this thread again if you need more help!

Just a quick fyi, I've seen this happen with AVG on a guild-mate's machine. For months, now, every time there was an update, it would fail on his machine. Typically on DNDClient.exe or one of the DAT files. He'd IM me the file where it would get stuck, I'd jump into his machine with TeamViewer and transfer it manually. The next time he'd fire up the launcher, it completed and launched.

Recently, he did a complete wipe and rebuild and on the latest U23, he couldn't update at all. I was pushing DNDClient and several of the DAT files. (Ever take a look at the 'client_sound.dat' file? Ain't small!)

Long story short, I finally convinced him to remove AVG and bada-bing he can now patch and update without issue.

Check the link in my signature for "Download DDO", it is a complete set of the older Hi-Res install files which will include the needed DAT files you are missing once installed you should be able to update manually.
