    Default Slow First Load

    The Issue

    I run the launcher, make to the character screen and then press enter. What ensues is a long wait, ranging from 4 to 6 minutes. Most of the time is spent on the loading screen, after that I see the world and my character, yet the image is frozen as yet more things seem to load, only after a while the game starts running. Sometimes the process leads to a connection loss, other times it doesn't.

    From here on the game runs fine-ish, even on very high settings, transitions between areas rarely exceeds 30 seconds, solid frame rate.. most of the times. There's a few exceptions, that's when I open the feat menu, or I level up or do other menu-related tasks, the game sometimes freezes up for a good couple of minutes before resuming.

    The Questions

    I played DDO about 2 years ago and I can't recall the game performing this poorly, so it's either my PC getting dusty (likely) or something is broken on DDO's end.

    I've tried Pre-loading both using Launcher Pre-loader and third party, I've tried to de-fragment the disk, nothing seems to help. Help?

    same here, i played for years, and recently came back after a couple of years of being away, my load time was insane and i had to revert from DX10 to DX9, try that and see if it solves any smoothing out in the loading times.

    Yeah seem I have the same issue, although I can spend up to 30 mins getting into the game (yeah I am a devil for punishment!)
    I log in sometimes 3 to 4 times and get the red latency thing. Saying that other times I get in first go, so I do not understand what happened during the last update patch but it has made me just a little frustrated.

    I am interested to know if all the other threads reporting similar "issues" have had any response from Turbine.

    My understanding is that bug reporting does not achieve anything to do with log in issues, is this correct?

    Lightbulb This is what i've figured out for my issues. I run VISTA though.

    I fixed my game, i run vista. after a bit of digging and stumbling my way through the maze of support and player submitted inquiry, i found the first solution was to disable IPv6 and also to allow myself to load a couple times as this was my first few character loads then after, perhaps 2 or 3 minutes with heavy lag i would crash as well. i would get the lost connection to server error and once i fixed the IPv6 issue could not connect to any chat servers. here were my solutions.
    issue number one. i was trying to log on, had really slow load times and then, when i finally had my character playable, i saw that i could not connect to chat and then it would lag and shorty there after crash with a system message: connection to the server lost
    TO FIX THIS i went and disabled my IPv6 in network settings. Then to be safe i clicked play as administrator.
    Seems to have solved the sustained game play without crashing but (issue number 2) still had no chat available.. but i could use /tell and /r commands to communicate with individual players. In order to fix this, i quit the game, and followed these steps. Basically editing some coding just by 3 didgets. from "0" to "9000"... this was found on turbines self help site. I am running VISTA.

    "DDO Chat Server Unavailable"

    If you are receiving this error message, please try the following:

    Log out of DDO and edit the userspreferences.ini file.

    In Windows XP, you'll find the userpreferences.ini file in your C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online folder.

    In Windows Vista, you'll find the userpreferences.ini file in your START>Documents>Dungeons and Dragons Online folder.

    Look for this section in the userpreferences.ini file:

    [Net]
    ConnectionSpeed=0.00
    ComputeUniquePort=True
    BindInterface=
    UserSpecifiedPort=0

    Change:UserSpecifiedPort=0 to UserSpecifiedPort=9000 so it looks like this:

    [Net]
    ConnectionSpeed=0.00
    ComputeUniquePort=True
    BindInterface=
    UserSpecifiedPort=9000

    Save changes.

    Login and the DDO chat servers should be available.

    If you are still receiving this message, please check the DDO forums for any known issues with the chat server.

    I hope this helps you guys, i know how frustrating it gets... this has only taken 4 hours for me to figure out, but it could work or not work for you too. it could have taken days or weeks otherwise. Let me know if it works for you as well..
