Ruby Eye Augments question

Hey,

I never really new these thingies existed but they seem like they'd be fun to play around with. So I was wondering, since they are augment typed and not weapon typed...does that mean I can slot these in any gear that has a red, purple or Orange augment slot and it will function with the weapon? Or is this only to be put in a weapon socket?

The only things that have red,purple,orange slots are weapons and shields. If you put it in a shield I'm pretty sure it will only go off when shield bashing.
