Default Preparing to start a pure Paladin for U23

Chances are, by the time I get to the point where being a pure Paladin is pointless, U23 will have happened thus rendering that moot, so whatevs :V

I do have some questions though.

    1. Considering how some of the features work with shield bashing, I'm going to want to go Sword and Board with Improved Shield Bash, I'm assuming. Am I correct?

    2. I plan on going primarily Knight of the Chalice with secondary Vanguard (if I go SnB) and some in Sacred Defender (more if I don't go SnB, ironically). Is this a good idea?

    3. I WON'T NEED TO TAKE CLEAVE FEATS BAHAHAHA YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    4. That wasn't a question, I'm sorry. Anything else I should know? I do know that 15 Paladin is the magic number, but now that pure Paladin is going to be viable, I wanna pounce on that real quick.

I just posted a post-U23 S&B pally here. Human > dwarf for extra feat (Imp Shield Bash), heal amp, and higher CHA. Could take b.sword + THF chain, but that squeezes out almost all your other feats; so that build is based on Deathnip then Mornh. When Vanguard comes around, I'd look into taking Stunning Blow: Mornh (Stunning +10) + Div Might + Vanguard DC bonuses.

    Sweet, thanks!

    EDIT:

I wonder if I should consider weapons other than picks and hammers, since as a human I won't have racial enhancements to boost them.

    Default Cleave Feats

I've been told that Paladin cleaves do not meet prereqs for Lay Waste and Momentum Swing in LD if you plan to go that way. I can't confirm it for myself, but so I've heard. Hopefully someone may tell us otherwise.

As of the last Lamma build, Momentum Swing still had Cleave as a prereq. However, the Pally cleaves DO reset Momentum Swing as if they were the regular cleaves, you just couldn't take MS without Cleave. Also, taking Cleave just to set LD and then dropping it with Fred did not work, however, having Cleave, setting up LD, and then ETRing and dropping Cleave DID allow you to keep your LD setup.

    That's cheating.

Regarding LD: I don't think it's a problem. Could just select a different Destiny.

I have had a pure paladin sword and board since drow came out of course I have had him parked at 25 for quite a while I should grind him out and do his ER/TR and start him again as a human paladin although a 30 pt drow might be ok

I plan to go Divine Crusader as well, but I often take momentum swing as a low cost twist (5W & +3 crit range is pretty good). But, I'm focusing on vanguard (I like new shinies) and the combination of taking shield feats on a feat starved class that I am leveling pure makes it hard to justify or work in cleave + great cleave. If I just took cleave but was unable to take both exalted and avenging cleave then the reset frequency of momentum swing would be severely restricted.

I'll probably forgo momentum swing this go round, it seems like it would sync better wtih KOTC and maybe I will revisit going heavier in that enhancement at some point.

You can adapt it to whatever weapon you like; I was just sticking to the OP's request for dwarf. However, Deathnip and Mornh are still pretty nice weapons even without dwarf bonuses. But it all depends on what you have.

Okay, so I've got both Slayer of Evil I and Courage of Heaven on my Paladin.

I notice that when I attack evil enemies, in addition to the 1d8 Light damage I deal, I'm also dealing an additional 1d8 "bane" damage, visible via white flames burning over the enemy.

I've looked at the descriptions for both Slayer of Evil and Courage of Heaven and don't see this effect listed.

Is this suppose to be happening?

I noticed this too, and I believe it to be a bug as mentioned it is not in the enhancement desc. Maybe only the text was removed.....
