Dark Queen of Krynn - SSI GOLD BOX Series
The above titles, along with Infocom, formed the base of my childhood gaming adventures. I was so absorbed in these titles. Spent hundreds of hours playing them.
Well I was amazed to find out that some of the original developers have teamed together recently to launch a new project that very well may JOLT back memories of these legendary titles that I've mentioned above.
Seven Dragon Saga – the epic RPG debut title from Tactical Simulations Interactive. http://www.tsi-games.com
New independent video games studio formed by SSI alumni, updates “Gold Box” RPG experience with modern tech and new core gaming system Tactical Simulations Interactive (TSI) is excited to officially announce Seven Dragon Saga – an original RPG for PC, Mac, and Linux, based upon an original pen and paper role-playing system designed by former Strategic Simulations Interactive (SSI) alumni Keith Brors and David Shelley.
Seven Dragon Saga takes place in a high-powered fantasy universe, revolving around the Empire of the Seven Dragons. Eschewing traditional RPG tropes, Seven Dragon Saga provides the player with effective heroes right from the start, with TSI aiming to provide the next step in meaningful player experiences in the same way that SSI’s ‘Gold Box’ titles did during the 1980s and 1990s.
This is not a tale of farmers or aspiring novices learning how to swing a sword; Seven Dragon Saga is a tale about the use of power. Players will need to assemble a brave troupe of adventurers “touched by the winds of the chaos”. Known as the Touched, these brave adventurers will face the unknown, and embark on a quest to discover hidden truths and determine the fate of the Empire.
Seven Dragon Saga allows the player to create and customize a full party of adventurers and maneuver them in detailed, turn-based tactical combat. You won’t find any rat-hunting farmers here- characters begin with a suite of talents. Rather, the characters are ‘Touched by the winds of chaos’, and destined for great successes or spectacular demises. Explore a rich world, uncover lost treasures, deal with challenging social and political situations.
The player’s choices alter the world in meaningful ways, both physically and socially. Sent by the Empire of the Seven Dragons to the minor Kingdom of Afelon, the party must uncover who is driving the land to civil war and whether that conspiracy might pose a threat to the Empire at large. What mysteries lie in the surrounding, monster-infested peaks? Who is worthy of trust and who only of death?
Our guild will be watching this project very closely. Even though its not an MMO, I think this could be a great thing to add to a guild's website for those guilds that are steep in old school D&D tradition.
If nothing else, this is a brilliant idea that will touch home to many of us that played Pool of Radiance - Dark Queen of Krynn, Curse of Azure Bonds and all those Gold Box games.
