Default Tower of Despair sets still any good?

Are the old Tower of Despair sets any good?

The Ravager set used to be on every melee, archers used Gilvaenors, Monks used Oremis or Shintao.

Would they be useful for doing a bunch of Epic TRs?

    Hi,

My ranger still uses Gilvaenor's set at cap for the DEX bonuses, 20% healing amp, and the stacking ranged alacrity bonus.

Apart from that one, they seem pretty outdated now. They may still be useful depending on what other gear you have.

    Thanks.

20% healing amp is still hard to slot, so it has it's use for that, but the stat bonuses are all useless (+6 is outdated and 1 exceptional is universally replaced by globe of true imperial blood).

    Hi,

Like I said in my last post, it's really a matter of which gear you have, and also what your build is.

The gearset I mentioned is primarily valuable for healing amp, and the stacking ranged alacrity is quite valuable to certain builds. The stat bonuses are not useless, they are just not best in slot at higher levels. +7 DEX on this set means you can use your other slots for other boosts.

The OP mentioned that he will be epic reincarnating a few times, which means he will be spending quite a lot of time below 25, the ML for the Globe.

    Thanks.

    At level 18, sure.
    At level 20 not really.
    Past that, no.

I would wear stuff like Dragonmarked ( 6 charisma, 1 wis, 2 wis ) ring on Cleric until 23.
Or Shintao with 20 % amp to pair with PDK ( Claw ) until 23 on Pally or Ranger.
Mostly for old times sakes and being lazy ( and frankly not much need to have the best for those levels, you'd often have half the heroic raid gear at 20+ levels ).

Still would have KORMOR ( ! ), Morah or Draconic neck for clickies but Tod sets are really obsolete.
It's kinda nostalgic to see people still having Crusty+Shintao icons on some toons. Only thing needed is Mari chain and Lit2 axe for time travel
Heck, I still use epic Marilith chain from 20 - 28, just because.

9 out of 10 Teh_Trolls recommend Ravager set though.

As others have said, +20% healing amp is sweet. The radiant set gives a turn undead bonus you can't replicate anywhere else. The dragonmark set gives extra dragonmark uses per rest. They're very situational at best.

As is often the case in DDO, the answer is not "yes" or "no", but "it depends".

TOD Rings still decent, just more completion for other rings now.
Still great transitional gear and All the clickies are useful right through to endgame.
besides.. still running all the flagging quests for Yugo favor... so may as well raid while you are there.

A real simple fix would be to remove the +6 stats and replace them with colorless slots on all the gear. Then add option to upgrade ring to have a second slot (Blue, Yellow, Green?) by combining them with a given number of Trophies of War.

If you do a lot of ERs then I think rings themselves are very decent, but sets? I don't think so, but maybe some are.
