I think one of DDO's biggest issues at the moment is its inaccessibility to new players. Finding ways to draw them in should be top priority to anyone with a vested interest in this game. That said, maybe I'll open a thread to discuss marketing and accessibility.
No its biggest issue is that those new comers who do come find a game where their choices are mainly to either solo the content until they know it by heart before they are accepted by the community, or try to find the handful of other new players on a server and pray they are of the right lvl range to play together. Or ofcourse the biggest one they get bored and frustrated and click on join of some lfm in thier lvl range filled with terms they dont fully understand and find themselves among vet tr speed freaks who leave the guys stone where it falls at his first death on some elite trap the rest twitch meta gamed past. Then they think gee golly this game isnt really a place full of friendly types maybe ill just go back to wow and my raid guild.

Not counter intuitive at all. Although not necessarily a good thing to be in the majority. Look at the music charts. Its pretty much only a good thing if you're the record company...

Aaaaanyway you're quite right. It doesn't actually matter what I think because I'm well aware that I am not in a majority of anything, anytime, ever. If the goal is to make money, doing what I want is a bad plan. I know this. Doesn't stop me bleating my PoV mind you.

In my defense - its rarely, if ever, from 'the majority' that true innovation and progress comes. DDO itself was never a majority game. Do we all love it? Of course we do, it's unique in a way very few other games are - that's why we come here and argue with ourselves in our little echo chamber. We're ALL in a minority, evidenced by us playing this game in the first place.

If they add a race: Make it gnomes.

If we get more, then teifling, aasimarr, and then dragonborn.

We need at least one exotic, later edition D&D race like the tiefling in DDO. Dragonborn may be a bit "out there" but something like the tiefling would be reasonable and add flavor to the game.
been thinking - this is the year of the dragon - would hope it would get released at least as an Iconic - but preferably as regular race....

When Vault of Artificer's came out we got Artificer - Druid when Druidic things were released... so Draconic when the big Tiamat reveal hits in U23/U24...

I am hoping that the 3rd Thunderholme raid is a Tiamat raid but this may not happen. I asked a dev directly on Lamannia and he said that a 3rd raid was not in development and that was about two months ago.

    Agree

More important races comes first (Gnomes, Teiflings, Asimarr) then they can add dragonborn

(At first I thought this thread was about someone's crazy idea of adding a race based on the Dragonborn hero in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Meh wrong game anyway :P)

yea, I doubt thunderholm will get a 3rd raid. it came from the depths (as in the /quest completion log) was said to be a previous name although with Anauroch coming next year, its possible its the name of the raid from that region. next raid will be an epic version of ascension chamber (said to be an entirely new quest rather then a remash of an old, so its possible it'd turn out like FOT)

as for that, I Dont see why people are so against dragonborn, are they confusing it with one of the prestige classes people could become, I remember there was one that wsa rather OP'd, but the dragonborn race wasn't, and while I'd like to see it come as a regular race, I'd be happy even if it was an iconic, although given the 3.5e dragonborn was more a ritual tranformation rather then a race I dont know what class they'd add to it. as as for fitting, dragonborn are in both ebberron and Forgotten Realms, so they do fit no matter which way the updates are headed.

I fail to see the draw of gnomes, besides RP-wise, they just dont offer anything unique that halflings dont already, sure there was alot of subrace of gnomes but I doubt they'd add them all so you'd be stuck with a certain stat spread and for what... possible DC increase for illusions spells?

I'd be fine with any UNIQUE race really...Genasi, Tiefling/Aasimar, Pixies, Kobolds, Dragonborn, Thri-kreen, Centaurs, Anthropomorphic, Shifters, Goblins, etc.

We have plenty of "standard fantasy races" like seriously we have FOUR elf races (drow, elf, half-elf, and sun elf)

Dragonboring weren't in the original Eberron setting they were added latter originally it was stated that such races would have been slain by the dragons.

All of this (and more) is what I meant by being inaccessible to new players; so I agree with you on this entirely.

If they did add them it would likely be from FR lore. DDO isn't completely true to 3.5 anyway, so they would likely have no qualms adding any race they wanted, so long as it was marketable.

in 3.5 they were in races of dragon. however, that was a different version when compared to either the ebberron or the FR versions since that was more or less a tranformation of an existing race into a draconic blooded one by divine intervention (bahamut) . Ebberron they were more or less half dragons, and due to dragon alignment in eberon I doubt that they would've been slain since they were descedants of dragons, so while they probably wouldnt be viewed in a good light there would still be a possibility of them surviving in hiding, and here in DDO all of our characters are more or less enemies of dragons anyway since we've basically killed all dragons we've come across aside from like 1-2.

I also don't see the problem, lore in DDO is just a guide. If you want to be true to lore play tabletop. Dragonborn (or my Dragon-Blooded concept!) would be great in DDO!

Funny Kobolds seem to survive just fine.

DnD "lore" (PnP or otherwise) is designed to be flexible, as I've said a billion times before no established home group or even officially sanctioned games follow the original rules, not to mention the different editions (ie. 3.5 is the ONLY edition that gnomes don't have +Int)

Not everyone considers them to be of the line of dragons I don't and originally they were goblinoids and that's what they remain in my 40 year old game world.

and your wrong on Gnomes in n1st ed gnomes didn't have +int either in fact they had no racial adjustments although one issue of sage advice did say to use dwarf adjustments for them and at the time sage advice was considered official

Personally I hate them because I've never seen them played as anything other than a cheesefest, pandering to unimaginative minmaxers in PnP with more of an eye on personal power than the roleplay. The backstory of the race never makes any real sense in any campaign setting I've ever read, they just seem to be there to please a certain type of mindset (oddly, it's basically the same sort of mindset that wants a unicorn mount or to play an angel or a 'good' vampire - all of which can be done very well indeed... but generally aren't). The sort of person who when you first meet them at LARP wants to tell you all about their character and backstory whilst you're stood in the OOC queue for food, and it'll turn out they're playing a 10000 year old fae who despite having supposedly been around in whatever very dangerous world the LARP is set in (seriously, you can't go to the pub for a beer without a zombie attack in LARP) for the last ten millennia, I can somehow still beat with my brand new no-special powers human with one hand behind my back and the seemingly unique ability to do something called "parry" which this ancient fae somehow hasn't yet learned...

But perhaps that's just me, and in any case that's PnP/LARP.

In DDO... well Neverwinter has dragonborn, so frankly we don't need it and in any case without fly they would, to me, be a pointless draco-anything. We should be offering something different to NWO, not the same - why compete when we can offer an alternative?

Something like *shudder* gnomes, or a non-cheese monstrous humanoid like a Bugbear or Minotaur, or Serpent Folk, or Yuanti. Or some kind of outsider (aasimar if we must).

But really? Really really? If they were going to spend a ton of time on animations, I'd much rather it was for alternative arti/druid pets than a new race. Just for some variety.

Because they are a munchkin cheese silly race with a really stupid back story! Why go for artificial cheese when there are races that are better non-munchkin and have a better back story such as just one example shifters, who are one of the core missing Eberron races

Hmm I think that guy was between us in the food line lol because I heard almost the same story years ago when I did play larps and yeah your right about the zombie attacks

Oh +1 on the rest of your thoughts

I really don't see why Gnomes are desired, and also don't see what they would offer.

I'd like to see Aasamir & Teiflings, primarily Aasamir as this game has long neglected having a +Wis race.
