Default Game starts in wrong resolution.when windowed

So I recently picked up a notebook with a GTX760M and of course DDO played fine on it, but the game started doing something pretty annoying yesterday that isn't occuring on my other systems, after I reinstalled it to a highspeed SDCard (this works great btw). I play in windowed mode and desktop resolution is the typical 1920x1080. When DDO starts however, the game window displays at a fixed, lower resolution causing "embiggened" hotbars to overlap and the screen to look washed out... :/

Note that this is in a window that is using the full width and height of the 1920x1080 screen. The game appears to be scaling the lower resolution into the window for some reason.

Going into Options>Graphics reveals the windowed resolution to be set to a claimed 1600x900 and not "custom" as I'm used to seeing. Adjusting this setting only works for 1600x900 or lower settings... 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 are given as options but cannot be selected.

So far my workaround for this has been to turn on fullscreen mode (set to 1920x1080) in options and then turn it off again. This corrects the windowed reso issue and allows the hotbars to fit on the screen but, of course breaks the main menu causing the bottom of it to not display on the screen.

Anyways if there's a setting that fixes this I'd be grateful to know what it is.

I thought there used to be a hotkey that allowed you to switch between fullscreen and windowed. Cant find it now that i need it.

I had this issue a few months back. It was some kind of conflict with DX9,10,11
I switched back and forth from 9 to 11, and then it worked fine. Hope that helps.

That didn't do anything, but thx anyways.

It looks like the game is refusing to accept anything higher than 1600x900 for windowed mode in Options, even when I'm in full screen mode at 1920x1080.

the userpreferences.ini has the correct value after i do the work around and exit the game, but it gets overwritten when the character selection screen pops up at start.

Perhaps you could set the Read Only flag on your preferences file once it is the way you want it?

I'm wondering if Steam version of the ddo client (the one i have installed originally) and the new install (dl'd from turbine) on the SDCard are actually even the same program. both are using the same userpreference.ini file but the steam install doesn't over write it each time the game starts.

Unfortunately my install of Steam games on this notebook is like 140GB.

Is the resolution you want the game to be in the recommended resolution for the computer? Check the display properties on the machine and see if it is recommended at the higher or lower resolution.

Maybe delete the userprefs file in your my documents/dungeons and dragons online folder and set it back up again.

Yeah, like i said it's a bog standard 1920x1080 lcd and there arent any issues running the steam install from the HDD, just the turbine install from the card.

is there another userprefs file in the ddo folder? im not finding it.

I'd rather figure out what's actually wrong or just go back to the HDD install that works, even if it loads the game a little slower.

I can understand that desire. For a while, every update was immediately followed by a string of logins where my preferences file was being corrupted or replaced with a default version. Several days after the update, the problem would just go away, but it would return with the next update. Very frustrating. I now keep a copy of said file with my desired settings, and I use it to replace the working file whenever it gets corrupted. During my investigation, I did notice that the file gets written to by more than one process, and I wonder whether that is part of the problem. For example, it is used by the launcher and the game client. Perhaps it will make a difference if I were to let the launcher close when I log on to a server.

It is going to be in a path like this: C:\Users\<your username/computer name>\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online where the stuff in the <> is either your login name or your computers name on the domain. If you do not have that location, then you need to reinstall the game. Or you could do a search for userpreferences.ini

Well I "solved" the problem by moving the steam install of ddo to the sdcard and making a symbolic link to it. Never did figure what was going on with the turbine installed version, tho.
