Eternal loading after character select

I'm trying to get DDO running on a new machine.
I reach character select without issue.
I log in.
The loading starts, and sits at zero percent for some time. My character is standing around in the world at this point, but I'm still behind a loading screen.
Eventually, the loading will hit 100 percent, and also eventually my character will disappear from in-game. The game then appears to hang with a full loading screen. Any ideas?

It has full firewall rights. My relevant ports are fully forwarded. I'm running it on dx9, not 10.
Any other ideas?

Have you tried the preloader or putting your DDO install on a SSD or USB key?

Sounds like the double-log-in problem that lots of people tend to get. The above linked pre-loader can often solve this issue (though it did stop working for me after some time ). It's a common grievance.
