Default Yet Another "K"ase for the Kobold.

So, obviously, I think kobold would be an awesome addition for DDO's playable races. They're already fairly iconic in the use with events and various bits of lore and quests (recruits from the kobold union, mayhaps, that got wanderlust?) but there's a lot of hurdles - race animations, armor (though, I'd imagine having a handful of presets that vary based on level/item type would suffice, at least at first!), not to mention the one thing that I hadn't really considered: Does anyone even play small races, ever?

I had to login to the game and go to create character to even be sure that halflings, much less dwarves (though less "small"), even existed in the game. I was only pretty sure of dwarf 'cause a friend of mine used to love playing them. Now, I've admittedly played off and on and not done a ton of raiding and the like, but almost every time I run through the game I see the same: humans n' elves, and nothing but.. I swear I've never even seen a halfling actually plaed, ever. DDO seems to sorta suffer from the viability of some builds, much less playstyles, sorta hinging off squeezing out that extra stat point or two, that extra freebie feet, the splashes, etc. - characters built around fluff or themes kinda fall by the wayside - and, frankly, that's just the nature of the beast with an MMO once you get to a certain point.

Anyways, digression aside, it occurred to me - the addition of a second small classified race would be a rather interesting opportunity to throw in a couple feats/enhancements/prefixes/suffices/etc. that could help kick up halflings and perhaps also dwarves a notch or two, something to give the shorter folk an interesting edge of sorts. Personally, and this is just my held belief, I think have a variety of races not only available but present in game really spices things up and makes it more interesting, and I feel DDO's single-mindedness in races stems from the underlying design that kinda wasn't ever intended to become a 3.5/4th edition mishmash MMO. And don't get me wrong, I actually like a lot of the direction with EDs, enhancements, and PrEs and stuff in the big picture lately, as much as they can always use work.

    Dwarves aren't Small, they're Medium.

My completionist main rogue/monk/paladin stunner/trapper is a dwarf. Dwarves are awesome. +con, +tactics DC's, +hp, innate +search, I'm all over that. I've been seeing a lot of dwarves around lately, too.

Halflings have their limitations. I like playing them but I haven't found anything that I'd RATHER play as a halfling than as something else.

My main is dwarf, will never change his race (even done sorc life as dwarf).

But sad truth, current meta favors human casters, human melees/rangeds with accest to positive hjealing, bladeforgeds for melees/rangeds, blade/war forgeds for artificers and casters and morninglords for wizards, with occasional elf for archer.

Dwarves are awesome and all, but they don't offer anything comparable power-wise better than other races, making them (along with hobbits) flavor choice.

Yes, I'd totally NOT play a kobold, why not a chipmunk instead? or a sea otter?!

I'd love to have Kobold as an option. Preferably supported wit ha balanced selection of the later stuff form 3.5 (Dragonwrrought, natural 1d4 slashing, etc). None of the more broken bits. Bonus points if their enhancements favor Sorcerer + Favored Soul (dragons are gods guys) witha nice mix of rogue in there.

    Default kobold master race

Just imagine a kobold DANCING! COMMON! A FREAKING DANCING KOBOLD!

throw in an EVO DC enhancement bonus, or +1d4 slashing on unarmed combat, enhancement natural armor bonus, or +10/20/30 spellpower enhancement to one elemental, or balance bonus or + running speed (small but fast). Favoring diferent builds and concepts. -STR, +DEX, -INT, + CHA or the something close to it.

PnP Kobold is -4Str, +2Dex, -2Con (They're a little underpowered in the stats department, but ended up getting a LOT of support making them pretty functional).

That simply means you haven't been paying attention. Don't mistake your lack of perception for a lack of playing.

To be fair, we are quite easy to miss on account of our size.
