How do you aim the ballistas?

I've tried a couple times to use them and either miss the ships or end up killing myself.

Any suggestions on how to aim them?

the projectile arcs and you aim with 'mouse look', it comes easy with a little practice

So is it best to scroll the view into first person, way out, doesn't matter?

I'll try again keeping in mind it arcs.
