Default New Races/Iconics - Aasimar, Tiefling and Gnome

I know that the subject of new races has been touched upon many times, though gladly the Iconics added new races(ish), they never went into what I think is highly demanded/needed.

Aasimar are a lore-fitting race that fill a much needed gap: Wisdom ability adjusted. I also love the concept of a silver-haired golden-eyed race.

Then we have the two most demanded races that I remember coming across multiple times and voted high in every poll I ever remember seeing in my years here on the forums:

Tiefling - the antithesis of the Aasimar and the race that's pretty much on the top of every aspiring Rogue that has ever played Pen and Paper. Though I do think they should be restricted from "Good" alignments (thus no Paladin Tieflings!). I would re-roll my Rogue to this immediately and brag about my horns to every pug that accepts my invite spam.

Gnome - Our hardy little midget halfling/dwarf hybrid. If there ever was an Iconic Bard for a pick swinging Swashbuckler, this would be it.

Aasimar would fit a gap that is too desperately needed across the board with their Wisdom bonus - Clerics, Favored Souls, Paladins, Rangers, Druids and Monks would all put this as a high racial option, and I believe it should be added as a straight new race. Other two can fit as Iconics as they already have strongly favored classes and ability bonuses that already exist (if not specifically in their combination of bonus/penalty).

I'm not sure how high on the plate is the concept of new races/iconics, but I personally want those even more than new dungeons/items.

Interesting but rather have more content and rather have regular races over iconics

I personally derive more hours of gameplay and enjoyment out of exploring and build planning on a new character or class than I do on a new quest. But the key term is personally.

As for Iconic/base race - I generally agree. I don't consider the Iconic feat bonuses to be strong enough to justify using them on the TR train having to get over double the XP on harder quests (along with much harder to get hearts) unless you're really that bored. The thing is, Iconics are also how they allow Forgotten Realms races to start there as it's a 15+ zone. But then with that logic, Aasimar would have to be Iconic (technically Tiefling as well, though they have them in game in Shavarath), which would be frustrating as many would have to +1 LR out the unwanted starting class. Gnome would be the only of the three that could be native to Eberron lore-wise (and thus be a base race instead of Iconic).

So how would Turbine be able to add Forgotten Realms races as base races and still fit lore?

Agreed, I hate the idea of iconics - more powerful versions of races that are already out there just make the normal races obsolete. I would however love to see a new race.

Gnomes should be a regular race, free to all - Based in Eberron.

Tieflings should be Tiefling Warlocks - Iconic to Forgotten Realms. Also, should only be LN, CN, TN (no good alignment).

Kalashtar should be a regular race (not class) - based in Eberron. Psionics are a racial ability not a class.

WF Scouts should be a regular race - based in Eberron.

Aasimar should be Aasimar Paladins - Iconic to Forgotten Realms. Also, should only be LG, LN, TN (no chaotic alignment).

    YARK!

How on Eberron have you missed the multiple threads asking for Kobolds to be added as a Player Race - These are wanted far more than either Tieflings or Gnomes in my experience!

Kobolds would indeed be amusing... though are a monster race with some heavy penalties (-4 STR, -2 CON). Turbine has definitely invested a lot into them, and I love them in challenges, but it's a whole new list with that route (full orc, troll, etc.).

As for them being wanted more or not, that's subjective of course. But if they were added... I'd certainly roll one even with those penalties (dragonblood sorc?)

I don't believe in having a race restricted to a certain alignment in Eberron. That is one of the main draws of that world.

However, I would agree that a Tiefling *Warlock* should be restricted to only certain aligments, but only because warlocks have alignment restrictions.

One of the reasons I tried out Neverwinter Online is that players can create Tiefling characters. NWO turned out to be a mediocre game but it does have the Tiefling as a player race. Tielfing rogues and sorcs would be a great addition to DDO.
