    Default Dark monk advice please!

    Ok...so currently I have a 2nd life mainly pure shintao monk, I want to try a dark monk for a change, it will be using wraps as a weapon, anyone able to suggest some sort of build? I'm thinking of going pure (last 2 lives were both pure light monk) I'm open to multiclassed suggestions too, I want to be able to inflict some decent damage, already have a +3 str tome, +3 con tome and a +3 wis tome on it.

    exactly the same build as light monk, 16 wis, 14 con, enough dex for twf feats(17) depending on your tomes and rest in str or some int for skill points
    you get a small amount of negative damage instead of healing curse.
    touch of despair if you feel like spending 10 ap for it
    dark monk finishers are pretty alright

    dark dark dark: -fortification
    water dark water: paralyze humanoids
    earth dark earth: nauseated (cant attack and half speed)

    My Dark Monk seems to work very well. Cannith Crafting is an amazing boon, just to have bane weapons. Lesser or greater, doesn't matter much. Just to give you some ideas, I've tried to recreate it off the top of my head:

    Most levels, you wanna stay in Air Stance all the time. Sometimes, like for a few levels after you get Touch of Death, you'll want to stay in Fire just to keep the necessary 50 Ki.

    How about a Dwarven Tactician with Stunning fist, Improved trip, Improved feint, (3 different tactics cc), sneak attack damage, good prr and ac with mountain/ocean stance, mostly ninja spy for shadow double, shadow veil, no mercy, with haste boost from fighter, trapper and umd skills from rogue lvls:

    It sounds like a really complex build to me, I've never had the chance to play rogue, not even at the low lvls. Not quite sure I'd be up to playing a 3 class character

    Most levels, you wanna stay in Air Stance all the time. Sometimes, like for a few levels after you get Touch of Death, you'll want to stay in Fire just to keep the necessary 50 Ki.

    Thanks for the reply and build idea! 1 problem I'll have with dark monk at higher lvls is the metal one DR, light monk in shintao manages to bypass most problems, where as dark monk won't. Ki probably won't be a massive issue as I'm normally in sun stance building it up and using as a see fit.

    Just wondering, as a light monk, the heal skill improved my ki heal, would adding points in heal do the opposite on dark? As in, would adding to heal skill improve my neg energy? Or would I be doing better by slotting in a ruby of nullification later on be better?

    you do realise that since the enhancment pass was made, light monks can get shadowfade from ninja spy, and dark monks can get the DR bypasses from shintao right?

    For clarity, as a light monk, you can invest in anything in the ninja spy tree, aside from the left hand vertical column. As a dark monk, you can invest in everything in the shintao tree aside from the left hand vertical column. There is very little difference between light and dark these days. Personally I tend to go dark, but there's very little in it these days.

    Ranks in heal skill will not improve fists of light, but it will improve your triple light finisher, sadly touch of death is not impacted by spell power.

    The playstyle is the same as a pure monk. Just go and punch the enemies with stunning fists and other tactics, rogue lvls are mainly for Use magical device skill, some sneak damage and possibly disable device and search for trap disarming but can avoid trap disarming if want (anyway monk will be your icon class so no problem if can't do traps). If you can craft a triple positive green steel boots (or item) with +12 exceptional charisma skills, sp and raise dead clickie it would be amazing to splash rogue for full use magic device skill ranks that can give you acces to many useful scrolls like raise dead and heal scrolls at higher lvls and you will be like in god mode in high heroic lvls and would make your way into epics more easy until you can twist rejuvenation cocoon.

    Currently, more than 12 Monk lvls does not give you much power, more with the recent quivering palm nerf, the capstone is good but requires too much ap sacrifice and some splashes just seem more powerful, like for example the fighter splash for haste boost and +3 tactical dc or rogue/artificer for full umd skill.

    If you are new to multiclassing and want to go slowly, can just multiclass with 2 fighter levels (for Haste boost, 2 extra martial features, +3 stunning fist dc, +3 reflex/fortitude save, +3 extra action boost and +1 to hit and damage).

    If have acces to a green steel item with cha skills can also splash just one rogue or artificer lvl at the begining for umd skill and then the 2 fighter lvls, that way would be a 17 Monk/2 fighter/1 rogue or artificer, just start with 12+ intelligence for skill points and after +2 Int tome you will have at least 4 skill points to spend per level that can be 2 skill points into Umd, 1 point into concentration and 1 point into jump or balance (not that complex).

    Just giving some more options than just going pure and since you want to be dark and will not have fist of light or healing ki, having some self heal from use magic device scrolls or wands would be very useful at higher heroic/epic lvls.
