The SFB property could potentially make a great MMO if id didn't get too MMO'd in the process. That old Interplay game translated it pretty well but doesn't hold up compared to modern games.

Yes, that ruleset scared so many people off, but fighting Klingons using shuttles and transporter bombs was awesome. These are the things I hoped would be added to TNG and DS9...ah well.

I think there was an attempt to make SFB a PC game. I have a copy (somewhere - no I'll have to find it and dig it out) and it wasn't too bad.

The "Commander's Edition" rule set was fairly managable; soft-bound books no more than 1/2-inch thick. Now, the "Captain's Edition" - THERE was a rule set; I think I have (3) 4-inch (maybe 5-inch) three-ring binders for them. I still have mine. Not just the base rules, but most (if not all) of the "official" expansions (not necessarily the ones in the SFB magazies, though - the actual modules).

Yes, I've crossed over to Live Producer on DDO. I'm now Vyvyanne's right hand. Most of my day is spent in making law out of chaos, be it the live servers, back end stuff, those kobolds in QA complaining about something, and design meetings. I'm totally psyched about this new role!

Congratz Mal! You've definitely earned your level, and have capped the patience with nerd raging gamers skill.

It all started in the summer of 1979. I played an elf, with 4 hit points and was killed by a poison spider. The life long obsession with games began. Thank you Gary Gygax and mom my first Dungeon Master.

This is the most amazing thing I have read in some time! While the whole post is hilarious, I think the bit about 4 hps, playing an elf, dying by a spider, and your mom as a DM just about takes the cake. Given your skills in narrating things in the most entertaining manner possible, I hereby move that you be the main communicator on the production staff, and give us many long posts about all of your evil plans of things to come! After all, an excellent bard can fascinate even the most stubborn of nerd rage gamers with news good or bad, and there is no better bard than you. To many more posts like this for many years to come! I'm sorry but I have to say I'm definitely not excited about this.

In those last 8 Updates you resided over there have been repeated bugs that were reported a month in advance if not more that still went live. And lets not forget that we had 2 Major Duping Events that we know of that were also reported ahead of time and the updates still went live.

Either way congrats, but color me worried.

I like to take a more positive outlook and interpret this as Turbine wanting to finally follow up on all the previously ignored warning bells and make work on their promises from Rowan last year, and Vyvyanne this year, that they would be ironing out bugs to make play better. Who better than a QA guy to take charge of changing their ways to have less after release highlights.
