Why does my wife become uncentered if she loots a tower shield out of a chest. Note this is looting it not putting it on. I myself have played my monk to level 21 and i have never encountered this problem.

Carrying a medium or heavy load uncenters you. Your wife's character probably has a low strength score or is a halfling. Or both. Try equipping an Ogre Power item.
