Default Lockout? Only after you fix the lag freezes!

    From latest release notes:

NEW: The raid now has a lockout mechanism to prevent characters from entering the raid once the Artifact has been activated.
NEW: The raid now has a lockout mechanism preventing characters from entering the raid once players reach the Shrine room.

Unless you've fixed the total lag-out where every single player freezes completely and is unable to take any action, while the mobs stay active and kill us all, there should NOT be a lockout mechanism.

Good thing DDO is BYOH because people are going to be less likely to want to heal these raids if they can't switch to an alt for possible raid loot drops.

I always have a horrible time finding the newest release notes. Dev tracker and Lam Dev tracker came up empty for me. Any chance you could link to them? Or at least let me know the method you use to find them? I saw no mention of it in the U21, patch 1 thread just put up a few hours ago. The most recent info states release notes coming soon.

The Release Notes thread is stickied, and rather than posting new Release Notes, they often just edit & update the existing ones. Since there is no new post, there is no new post to show up in the Dev Tracker.

Thanks. This explains why I can never find the release notes. They post them up once, then edit. The edits don't show up in dev tracker so I lose track of it. I browse the forums almost solely with the "new posts" button and dev trackers. I almost forgot there was a forums home page with a billion sub forums.

lockouts are nothing new. be thankful there is a point where people can still enter after the raid starts.

Alternatively, one could address the OP's point about lockouts being unfair in the particular case of the new raids due to the relatively common occurrence of lag wipes.

than the OPs point is misplaced. he needs to direct the point to the actual problem instead.

Well he has though; he's saying that there only shouldn't be a lockout while the lag-wiping problem in those raids persists, which seems a pretty reasonable request.

A small price to pay to be able to complete and loot your own chest in spite of lag wipes.

    lag-wipes + lock-outs = screw-the-players.

Or do you think that combination is just fine?

I have no idea what your idea of "the actual problem" is, but that's my actual problem.

I don't see what swapping toons is a big deal, but I don't really care, as I only play one toon anyway.

Quite a few raids have no real lock-out mechanism at all, and several more only have a lock-out right at the end, not the beginning.

But I honestly don't care either way whether raids have lockouts, unless re-entry is required due to factors beyond the player's control, like lag-wipes.

Lag wipes are unfortunate and frustrating. the issue that causes them should be addressed sooner than later.

Releasing and re-entering a raid however, is indeed cheesy. I have no problem with lockouts on raids.

All raids should have a lockout mech as far as I'm concerned. But I would like to see the reasons people switch out addressed BEFORE they implement the locks.

First, fix the lag. Its ridiculous that devs keep releasing content with mass spawns and other known lag causing mechanics.

and second fix the freakin loot. I'm just not sure what my healing capable toons really want out of these raids.... why would I run it on a cleric where I'm basically expected to use a bunch of pots for a reward that isnt going to benefit me all that much?
    Its just silliness.

Agreed on all these points. I wouldn't mind the lockout if they fix the lag. While they're at it, they could do something about people dying in phylactery rooms, the raid completing, and not being able to get your chests unless you re-enter.

Ward Token is actually fairly nice for a Cleric. It's about the only thing I've seen worth grabbing in the two raids.

    1) Something being the status quo or having happened in the past doesn't make it a good idea.

    2) Lag wipes in the new raids dwarf anything seen previously so we're not even talking about lockouts similar to the current ones.

    3) The new raids have multiple lag-wipes to get a single completion almost commonly. That's new. The metric of "net number of lag wipes over the time a raid has existed" is truly bizarre. I don't care that in the history of time there have been "a lot of wipes" in VoD. The point is the frequency or proportion of attempts that result in lag wipes, which is higher than ever before for the new raids (save in Mabar, which if a re-entry solution had been possible would obviously have been beneficial).

    4) If people change character for the end chest, can they actually loot it since it's Epic?

    5) Even if they can... so what? The main prizes are crafting materials which are unbound anyway. The desperate desire to roll on someone else's btc loot if they do pull something they would otherwise put up for roll if they couldn't change to another character is gross and uncompelling.

    6) Playing the character best able to contribute in very specifically undead heavy, or kiting heavy raids, while being able to share the loot around would actually be a good thing.

    7) Are people honestly objecting to this? Why? I can't even... Bah. Internets hey. Hopefully a dev reads this thread and changes their mind. Meantime I'll bear in mind Cordovan's recent advice about customizing forum experiences.
