Dear OP, this is the solution to all your problems. Put up LFMs like this and you can play and enjoy the game in Depeche ModeOriginally Posted by UurlockYgmeov
Its not about using or not using the buffs, the resistance buffs are unbalanced for low level toons and everyone knows it.
Personally I will take every advantage open to me to mitigate damage, so ship buffs are on the list... broken or not it is a buff and I am uber with my ship buffs.
Ship buffs make low level content laughable which also detracts from the danger/challenge that they should be affording to low level players.
House P resists are trumped by ship buffs, making house P favor/buffs worthless ( this should be updated to offer same buffs to unguilded .. for a price .. of course...and still favor dependant so as not to make it accessible by lowbies)
I have played the game long enough that I am at a point where I dont care about low level challenge, TR's are about getting back to epic's as fast as possible and at epic levels I don't care about resist buffs anymore I have a draconic augment that gives me the +30 to all resists, or can cast the spell, or use a 30 resist wand, or have a better resist item.
Point being..from a gaming balance perspective it is unbalanced..
Overpowered for low level toons and less useful at endgame, hence my comment that it should have been a absorption as opposed to a fixed resist, making it useful to every class at every level and more balanced without being considered OP.
I don't want ship buffs removed, I like my buffs, but they do need to be adjusted changed and/or balanced to be level appropriate and maintain benefit through endgame.

Again, I recognize that this will never change at this point, and I've accepted it.
But you're not trying to see the other person's point of view here. Because this is a multiple person game, something that affects others does affect you as well.
If player A is in a small guild with some friends and does not have access to Resist 30 shrines (or if he just prefers not to screw around on the ship getting buffed), but he joins a low level elite quest with players B, C, and D who all do have Resist 30 . . . then when player A has to be careful of fire throwing kobolds and acid spewing traps, the other 3 can just rush through them. Either Player A is slow and careful, in which case he falls behind the others and has no fun, or he tries to keep pace with the others, and dies -- in which case, no one is having fun, since A has to deal with the frustration and boredom of being dead, B has to go back and get his stone or raise him, C complains about losing the XP bonus from no deaths, and D is sick of the arguments and drops group.
(Now, again, I recognize that the ship buffs aren't actually essential. I don't use them myself, most of the time, and I do fine in groups -- but that's because I know where most of the traps are and I have plenty of funds and knowledge to buy and use Resist 20 potions when I can't cast the spell.)
It's disingenuous to say that a benefit available to some players doesn't affect the gameplay for those who don't use the benefit.
Why am I not allowed to use magic to conquer my foes exactly?
Do you run around using nothing but masterwork weapons and armor? This magic I use to "dominate" and "trivialize" low level content are the fruits of my labor. Just like that magic ring you wear that automatically slays a humanoid creature, or that spell the wizard has that makes burning fire appear out of nowhere and turn my foes to ash.
Besides, no amount of buffs in the world can ward stupid. There is no protection from stupid spell. I've searched high and low. A bad player will die no matter what level of precaution you throw at him, and very likely a new player as well.
These buffs just speed up the lower level content, which is just fine, as many people have proven through sweat and tears they can do it the super hard way, end game is not at level 1-10 anymore. I'm just fine with them sticking around.
In fact, make them even better, make the ships bigger, bring out new buffs. Wait, they are? Well hot digidy ****.
Except that's not what he's saying:
He clearly states that he thinks that low level content should be more challenging to lowbies. Apparently the lowbies aren't capable of deciding how much challenge they prefer.
You certainly have a point, but it is not the point that JOTMON was making. And your example is no different than a new player trying to group with low level characters that are being fed equipment from a higher level character or TRs. There will always be a disparity in PUGs - getting rid of ship buffs won't change that.If player A is in a small guild with some friends and does not have access to Resist 30 shrines (or if he just prefers not to screw around on the ship getting buffed), but he joins a low level elite quest with players B, C, and D who all do have Resist 30 . . . then when player A has to be careful of fire throwing kobolds and acid spewing traps, the other 3 can just rush through them.
If you dont like dont use it. I see perfectly the other point of view, but what you describe isnt the fault of the ship buffs, its the fault the player that dont know how to play in group.
If A say i dont have fire resist, the other must help, if dont, its a bad party, with bad players
Stay saying that and tomorrow will read "Eliminate the aditional damage on weapons!"
I agree that the resistances completely negates dangerous traps and caster mobs at low level thus enabling anyone to zerg the lower level quests. Those quests would be a crawl (in a good way) without them. I skip mine often, and never join a group and then ask them to wait on me buffing. Buff then join, or skip.

So your saying i worked my a$$ off to get my guildship and all her nice buffs and you don't like it, so i shouldn't use it??
Nothing to see here but another i don't like it so you shouldn't use it, even better nerf it thread, very closely related to the play the game MY WAY thread.

Wow, I didn't realize this was something that would spark such debate. I've been in my guild for four years and have never even been on the ship. I know the buffs exist and I know what they do, maybe now that I'm getting my bum handed to me in later levels (I'm pathetically casual) I ought to look into using them.

Sadly, I don't think anyone here is terribly concerned with whether or not you are impressed. As always, you can not use them. In fact, I recommend it. Because I don't care for hypocrites. Which you admit you are. SO stop being a hypocrite - stop using them. Then make sure and tell everyone on your server that you run with how much they need crutches for using them. See how that works out for you.
Most of the buffs are pure fluff. For instance, there's a buff that gives half the boost of Heroism, another that gives a broken Protection from Evil, and some other fluff. The stat buffs are nice, but hardly game changing. Arguably the best (IMHO at least) is the XP shrine, as it cuts 5% (or whatever you have access to) off the total of 3.8 mil XP needed for TR.
I agree the resists are OP at low levels - if they would scale effectively by treating the character level of the recipient as the caster level of the resist would be more appropriate. That said, they're the best (again IMHO) best buff after the XP shrine as I do not at all miss the days of everyone hanging out at the quest entrance waiting for the poor caster (or ranger or whoever) to cast all quest appropriate resists on all party members draining their mana bar.
As for the time consumption issue - I suspect it's a bit of a wash to run about the ship ~once an hour (while selling & repairing to boot) vs the gather and cast resists mentioned above, not to mention people used to waste time running to this vendor, or that pawn shop to sell their loot but now most (it seems) just use the ship guy.
If you really find it that annoying people want to stop by the ship, just start the quest. That way you don't have to wait, and the time they spend getting buffed won't be enough to cause a late entry penalty.
I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...
I like ship buffs. Makes questing faster since people don't have to stand around at the beginning of the quest passing resist spells. And they help with speed during multi-life TR grinding. I also like the House P and J buffs. And I like being self-sufficient, where I can.
Since ship buffs are the reward you get for gaining guild levels, I see no need to eliminate them.
It can be frustrating when people show up late to a quest because of buffs. If it bugs you, just tell people you are in progress and don't wait for them.
I always get ship buffs BEFORE joining a LFM. If everyone did that, it would help some.
Not sure if this thread will be locked soon, given your choice of language.
"So maybe it's about time we all get a reality check and realize that if you raid, run epics, and have capped toons and worry about ED's TR's and all that jazz, you are a small part of the population of this game, a very small part in fact." -- Ungood
Oh who friggin cares. With all the things broken with DDO worrying about how this break low-level play isn't even in the top 50 list of things that should be addressed.
Seriously . . . who cares?
