There's a difference between being on a customer list ( what we have been pointed to ) and a user list ( the companies that use Akamai net_thingie )... I'm fairly sure the second list is really really shorter.

The solution of installing Akamai standalone would be awesome.. if I had any more luck with it. :P

The installer for Akamai auto-terminates with a message "Installer was interrupted before Akamai NetSession Interface could be installed". There doesn't seem to be anything online about this error specific to Akamai, but the same error for other applications says to enable IIS6 compatibility in the control panel (Programs > turn windows features on or off). But that doesn't seem to do anything for this case either.

    Fun times.

I am having the same problem and am on a Mac. I can not see anyone else with the problem. This sort of stinks.

    Default Why!?

I would like to know WHY the ddo devs keep breaking ddo? First it was awesomium process and now this akamai thing. Why do they have to break what was working just fine? IF it ain't broke DON'T fix it already!

Totally Unacceptable! DDO remove this requirement or I will have to remove me a VIP who buys points every time they go on sale/bonus

There are plenty of thread for protesting/ranting in general forum.

Please leave this thread clean for those who want to have assistance with the DDO launcher and akamai not working. Thanks.

    /agree

Regarding the issue: All my efforts to re-install both DDO and the C++ redist have been fruitless so far. Looking at forums and log files haven't brought me closer to a solution, either.

My OS is Win7 prof. on an IMac

Yes it would be nice if the launcher requires a new program that it actually gets you to install the new program rather than making you figure it out yourself. I still have to do the work around to stop awesomium process from lagging me. Had to go find c++ and install it myself, and had to track down akamai and install it myself (not easy to do when it's download location is well hidden.

And to any that say akamai must be safe microsoft requires it to do it's updates... um NO... If microsoft required it to be used to do updates then I wouldn't have needed to find and install it, it would have already been there.

Seriously though. These kinds of things do make us all grumpy and needing to vent a little, but it is the nature of using the internet. Before the internet you just went to radio shack and bought a complete program. Now you get the dreaded "update required" because thanks to the internet NOTHING is ever complete. 1 out 10 things you MUST get for things to work will cause your computer to blue screen, requiring you to fix or repair your computer thus keeping the industry making $. Live with it, rant, and then move on... or go back to using commodore 64.

    OS Windows 7

Cordovan(sp?) This issue is not solved. I have went through all the "walkarounds" and it still Fails.

I would love to hear/read something explaining this.

Is anyone looking into scrapping this Akamai garbage?

The only thing I have left to do is call Turbine. And IF/When that fails tonight, I will vote with my wallet.

Thank You for taking the time to read this

The 'solution' to the Akamai problem did not work on my MAChine, although it may be a good start.... I hope Turbine has not ceased work on this issue, because it still is an issue...

Yep I'm having problems installing Akamai on a Windows XP machine. I haven't had problems installing previous 3rd party applications for DDO.

I have tried http://client.akamai.com/misc/demos/...nloadName.html. I clicked on 'Start download' then 'download the installer' it didn't seem to do anything.

    Any other solutions?

I got a mate coming over on the weekend, nice if I could get this working.

I think the lack of response or even feedback from Cordovan is telling. Trawling up the net it seems that there is quite a few game where people have similar problem. Looking more closely it looks like akamai is using technic which are not very good (installation technic among other). My guess is that we are in the minority, otherwise if they had had a real drop in DDO user, they would have reverted. And if we are in the minority.... Chance is that we have been abandonned.

After fighting with this for a while I just managed to get akamai installed. I had to download it separately, unhide the appdata folder and run the installer as administrator to get it it install properly.

Ok guys,. I just returned to DDO and I had that **** issue with Akamai and the launcher "Looping endlessly" asking me to agree the license sometimes, or just with a random error telling me to "contact" turbine, I'm posting this here cause this post helped me a bit to do the fix and also because I see some people still have issues making this work, so here's what i did:

1-Enable the true administrator account on your win7, check this video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loU9qJd28hM

2- Now enter in the admin account and download the second link provided by Sthax http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/38627452/file.html and install it

3- Install DDO as an admin and enjoy.

Hope this helps someone (maybe it was worth ressurecting this post) and ofc sorry for the bad english!
