Thumbs up Solved: U21 Akamai Agree Loop....

Ok here is the work around:

    Download Akamai manually:

Windows users download http://client.akamai.com/misc/demos/...nloadName.html When you download this it will promt a window saying you need the akamai Netsessions to run it and get the download link. You only need the Netsessions, you dont actually need the demo file.
    Direct download -> http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/38627452/file.html

Mac users can find the install here -> https://a248.e.akamai.net/client.aka...=installer.dmg

Hope this helps everyone out. See you IG

Plat, shards, tomes and thank you notes can be mailed to Sthex @ Ghallanda ;P

Why can't i change the Thread titel.... to "SOLVED: U21 Akamai Agree Loop...."

When i try to start DDO it ask for agree with akamai. When i agree it cant connect and asks me again..... rince / repeat

    How do i fix this?

i've turned off the firewall. So that shouldn't be the problem.

    it says:
"failed to initialize or install Akamai netsession interface"

in the downloader. Then pops up another EULA window.

Tried in firewall OFF mode and ALLOW ALL mode.

I'm in the same boat as you and I'm running it on Mac. I haven't found a solution yet. I've even unistalled and reinstalled.

Here is the solution for the MAC client.

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...-For-Update-21

You have to install the Akamai software manually.

You can also use alternate launchers :

    Alternate Game launchers :

    PyLOTRO :

    Post link :
    http://tiers-age.leforum.eu/t530-Pyl...pide.htm#p5144 ( sorry for the French )

Direct link for the Exe : http://uptobox.com/wl9hvlskeqpw

Direct link to the Source Code : http://lotro.fosconetwork.org/script...tRO-source.zip

    DDO-ML :

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...t-DDO-launcher

Both seems to be able to update the game and they can do that without Akamai ( proof that it's a useless piece of software ).
Both can be used to enter the game in place of the normal launcher.

The only drawback is that they are not working with the preloader... but that might be relatively easy to fix, since IIRC the preloader code source is available.
On G-Land : Flavilandile, Blacklock, Yaelle, Millishande, Larilandile, Gildalinde, Tenalafel, and many other...

I'm not to fond of third party launchers. but i'll have a look.

My laptop has the same problem.

I've downloaded a new install and its updating now, but these are prolly the older patches. I'll let you know if it does the trick.

I can understand that... At least the alternatives in this case have the source code available and are installed knowingly.

The work around does not work for me. The akamai installer jsut say there was an error and need to be restarted. Problem is, it *always* says that no matter how much I try (trying with the offline installer ATM).

So I am stuck. I do not know where my character are so I can't use a third party loader.

EDIT: Hmm. It would appear that some third party-launchers can update the game. I am removing my sweeping generalization that they can't :-)

There is a Mac third-party launcher in the Mac forum, for those that want it, after you get the update. It's handy for quick-starting alt accounts. But honestly, the fuss about Akamai is just that really. They are a top-tier company, head and shoulders above Pando, and I think they are a good choice for Turbine.

Turbine could stand to clean up the deployment a bit. The Mac version should just install the Akamai stuff. I reported this a couple weeks ago on the Lam bug forums.

They are a good choice only if it works. Obviosuly for some of us , it does not. It is not that I am unwilling, it is that I am unable to use it. No idea why the install refuse. Hopefully Cordovan (" FYI, we have been investigating this issue throughout the day, and hope to provide you with more information about a workaround soon.") can find a solution.

EDIT : edited my psot to reflect your edit.

I know several people who will not be playing DDO anymore. Akamai is a peer to peer, so they will not be updating the game and are going to be quiting. It's not just one or two people. It's a ton of them. Myself included.

We're stuck dealing with the failsominium ****, and now this? People are already going to be bailing and moving to ESO. (Over half of a guild I was in will be leaving DDO) Some of them among the top players on Thelanis.

Had I seen it before I updated, I wouldn't have updated it. I've since uninstalled it, and if it attempts to force me to to install it again, I'll be among the thousands to quit DDO and cut my losses.

    Cordovan,

I hope you guys are still looking into this problem even though the thread title states it's solved. My wife is having this problem and the fix in this thread did not work for her.

It can be freely enabled at seconds notice, according to EULA. And it can be updated to access and spy om my files too, according to EULA.
Even if you are not doing that, remember Pando media booster?

At least don't make it run on start up. Making it run when updating, and shutting it down afterwards should be easy enough, especially, if you have a programmer, who can write in the code offered in other forum post. Or just do some trickery.

I still don't understand why are you using p2p client, instead of just using servers.

Disabled or not. You're still forced to download it. I initally downloaded it, then unistalled it. I have to Re-download it in order to play DDO. I, and several others, would be (grudgingly) ok with doing as I did. Download it, update the client, then unistall Akami, and be able to log into DDO.

Without Akamai, you can not play DDO. Is there a reason you have to constantly have it running?

Maybe I should have specified that my wife's computer is not a mac... please tell me you are still looking into this for non-mac users. Her OS is Windows 7 if that helps.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I personally will not install it again. Nor will I be playing DDO till the "need" for Akamai to be installed is resolved.

Yes, I know Microsoft is on their list of companies. Yes, Microsoft uses it for their updates. But. Microsoft does not force me to install it on my computer.

That being the case, Why can't Turbine do the same?

Windows, Ubuntu, Mac... Shouldn't make a difference.
