    Default Ninja spy shuriken crit expansion stilll not working...

    After seeing it said that a bug with thrown weapons was found and that now maybe shuriken crit expansions might work. Well after some testing I have to say that this one does not. It shows a crit expansion by two in tool toop, but in function...

    without improved crit throwing it showed 18-20 crit range

    with improved crit throwing it showed 18-20 crit range

    with improved crit I was getting crits on 19 and 20s, without improved crit only on 20..... I used various level 28 random gen shurikens from ah and mourning star from ah.

    As nice as it would have been with stars being added to the craftable thunderforged... ithe ninja spy shuriken crit expansion cap stone still doenst work.

    Yes it doesn't work. I have tested this on Lamannia myself. I have the feeling that even if they have a fix that fix might not yet have made it to Lamannia since the behaviour is completely the same as that which you can find on the life server. Even the release notes state nothing that has changed with throwing weapons. Would be nice if you filled in a bug report too so that maybe they can track this down and fix it for the release or at least in an upcoming patch soon.

    On Lamannia now with Update 21 Patch 1 (27/3/14) they have largely fixed up the display of the critical range on the tool tips and inventory panel.

    Unfortunately, in practice the result is now worse with Keen no longer having an affect on the critical range of shurikens at all.

    Results as below:

    Level 20 Monk Drow, Active Destiny Magister with no points spent and no twists.

    With Improved Critical: Throwing feat

    Using disjuncted base Returning Shuriken:
    Tooltip shows critical range as 18-20, inventory panel shows correct critical range 15-20.
    In practice only experience critical on 19-20

    Using disjuncted Returning Shuriken with Keen:
    Tooltip and inventory panel shows correct critical range 15-20.
    In practice only experience critical on 19-20

    Without Improved Critical: Throwing feat

    Using disjuncted base Returning Shuriken:
    Tooltip and inventory panel shows correct critical range as 18-20.
    In practice only experience critical on 20

    Using disjuncted Returning Shuriken with Keen:
    Tooltip and inventory panel shows correct critical range 15-20.
    In practice only experience critical on 20

    Common Devs! Fix this already! You nerf shuriken builds by 90% by making ninja poison only work on crits! Then you leave this obvious bug alone?


    It's a double shot to the nuts.

    We have to bump this thread EVERY day. That's how I got them to comment on mine before and made them promise to fix this in U20 (which they failed to do).

    Also add to list: New ED does not grant Crit increase with Shuriken.

    I've been PM'ing with Cordovan and apparently the problem is a very thorny one.

    This tells me it will NEVER get fixed. It's been added to the known issues list, but that's probably not much of an indicator of anything except that the devs know about it, and don't have time to fix it any time soon.

    I have made the sugestion they just change all broken enhancements/ED options for Throwing weapons to grant +1 crit Multi on 19-20 instead of threat increase because that's super easy to implement, almost as good, and would make the enhancements compelling for thrower builds.

    We'll see if they listen.

    Just wanted to pop into the thread to let folks know that we are aware of this issue, and have been spending a not-small-amount of time digging into it, but so far a complete fix has proven elusive. We're definitely hoping to get this fixed, though, and appreciate your interest in this issue.

    Thank you for popping in and giving us a status update cordovan. With more and more throwing weapon builds coming up and shuriken builds becoming very popular throughout the servers a lot of people have an interest in seeing this fixed. Throwing weapon builds are simply fun. Actually the most fun i have ever had with a build in DDO. Please try to fix this. Especially since Sting of the Ninja has been broken for named shuriken with Update 21. Would be nice if you could fix that too.

    Thank you for looking into this, it's really devastating not having this work on shuriken as their base damage is crazy low and their main dps comes from ninja poison (which was changed from on hit to on crit).


    Is there any chance in the meantime that for shuriken we can change ninja poison back to an on hit effect? Maybe a 50% chance on hit? It was nerfed way to hard the first time (by a whopping 90%!) and could use some love.


    Also maybe add to the capstone: your ninja poison now deals damage to monsters immune to poisons.

    I wonder if this may be because shuriken were added later to the game, so entirely coded different, like handwraps.

    Similar, but not the same. It's because it and related items are throwing weapons, so they work like ammo (bolts and arrows, which cannot get critical threat status) but aren't ammo.

    Last I played my shuriken thrower (maybe 10 days ago) and checked, I was apparently not receiving ninja poison at all. After applying some stacks with poison darts, these stacks would simply be gone after the timer countdown. Previously, in 10k stars mode with whirling wrists I was easily able to build up to 20 stacks of poison on red names, even though I would only crit on 19 or 20. Ninja poison not applying at all is far worse than ninja poison applying only on crit.

    Yes, the Sting is broken on named, loot-generated and Challenge-crafted stars with Update 21, but the Sting does work with Cannith-crafted stars as a fallback. Several of us have filed bug reports but do log one, too.

    With Swashbuckler adding to critical threat range of throwing weapons, does that mean that the bonuses to critical range for throwing weapons (and handwraps) are fixed?
    Or is it wishful thinking?

    I'm not really sure what news you expect. As Cordovan stated about three weeks ago they are working on it but still have not found a solution. Otherwise there has been no new information stating the contrary. If you mean if the bonuses are working on the live servers thats a definitive NO. I think the swashbuckler enhancements were not planned on wether the bug will be fixed soon or not but simply on what would be fitting and desirable to the PrE. Supposedly very different people are working on the bugs than those who are planning the PrE. You know the new Epic Destiny has also been developed and released with a crit range expanding enhancement without that bug being fixed so i would not derive any information on the bug being fixed by that fact.
