To be fair a lot of people did learn a lot of the quests without help. Back when I started wanting to lead groups more often I went and soloed from 1 to 20 (then cap) learning the quests along the way. Then later I would try and see if I could solo all quests elite to learn extra tricks (this was back when there wasn't scaling). I and some of my quildies still try and solo every new quest eh/he first both to learn it and to get that first time dungeon crawl feeling.

This is not to say people shouldn't be taught or helped through quests, and there are definitely tips and tricks you often don't come up with on your own. But the time to learn a tough quest is usually not in an EE,IP quest as even if I would be happy to teach someone the 4 other people that joined probably expected the usual 5-10-15 minute run and not an hour long slog with explanations. For me I will often teach newbies when they are the first one in group and point out they need help. That way I can drop the lfm and just run them through the EE without having to be worried about 4 more people waiting on us.
Anyhow that's just my 2 copper,

Yea, when I was new I was doing quests the old way, normal, lvl up, hard, lvl up, elite, was putting my own groups and was using wiki if I was stuck.
