Default Voice volume vs other game sounds

    Dear Turbine staff,

First off, this in-game voice system is actually very good in terms of quality and simplicity. Nothing to add there.

However, there is a problem with the volume of it. I am not the only one who has that issue, since I have talked to many who have come up with a similar " solution " on the matter.

That is... ALL GAME SOUNDS have to be at around 0.01 to 0.03, and VOICE at 1.00. Otherwise, you simply can't hear most people.

I am sure others can post in this thread and confirm the issue at hand.

Please re-adjust the volume ratios or allow voice to be boosted over 1.00.

2 fixes which make the in-game voice infinitely better:

    1. better volume control vs other sounds
    2. ability to modify volume for individuals - there is always someone incredibly loud and someone incredibly soft

It should be better to add some automatic gain control at recording side. No more GUI controls please

I did figure out a small trick that has helped somewhat, but is by no means a replacement to updating the in game voice chat we use, it will let you assign a serperate playback device from the other game sounds. I assign all the game sounds to the pc speakers, and the voice sounds to my headset. It helps me a great deal to have only the other speaking players directly in my ears and not competing with the background sounds as I have some hearing difficulties, and I'm not sure if it would help other players, but figured can't hurt to share.

    How do you do that?

    This helps a lot.

There is a pulldown list in the audio options for game sounds playback device, and one for voice chat.
Put voice chat in your headset, and the game on your desktop speakers. Viola!

(You still can't turn some people down, however. But this is a pretty good solution. +1 Trinity, good suggestion some may not know about.)

This has been raised over and over and over again. Nothing worse than having to jockey the volume constantly to be able to hear everyone in party/raidgroup.

Thank you, I found it by accident out of sheer desperation. When you have hearing difficulties that make it extremely hard to separate voices from backgrounds on the same speakers in chaotic environments, you start hitting buttons to see what they do! LOL And I like that I still have sounds in a separate place that I can understand the other players(obviously there are still problems with some coming through in subhuman decible levels) to alert me to various things, like coddex finding a bear trap the hard way yet again and I should protect him for a bit while he does the "OH IT HURTS OR MAYBE I JUST HAVE TO PEE" dance while trapped helplessly.
