    Default Monastery for Monks

    Monastery for Monks

Hi I am leader of a small monastery "guild" on Thelanis called the White Lotus Monastary. We are mid-level (57) and have a tempest ship with ammenities most suitable for monks. As a monastery we only accept other monks --you must have at least one level monk (exceptions are for tr build completion that are alignment restricted like Barbarian -- but one is expected to return to some splash of monk or more after such a build). Officer status (what we call SiFu -- or teacher) of course carries through trs.

Our daily message of the day is a martial art code from the White Dragon Fist style of Kung Fu to which I am quite familiar in real life. Sidis (Students) in the monastery should choose at least 5 codes that reflect the idea of their character and be able to repeat them back to the the senior instructor "Sigung (myself) for advancement in to Sifu (officer) status. They must have served at least 17 levels in the guild also to achieve such status. Why 17? As a tip of the hat to the original pnp dungeons and dragons game to which 17 was the max level to achieve status and rank.

(By the way in reference to the early pnp game, starting at level 8 in order to progress a monk one had to duel a similar level monk and defeat him/her or he would not be able to advance. I am looking for a rival monk guild that would be willing to have members square off in player vs player for such purposes with losers having to donate a significant amount of pp to the other temple/monastary/ guild as well as have to wait one rl day before making another challenge in order to see if they can advance. This is not happening at this time in our guild, but is something I would like to have happen -- are there other monk guilds out there on Thelanis interested?)

At this time we have to openings for membership available as we are limiting our number of members in the guild to six accounts for maximum guild xp. However if I receive a large number of applicants above the 2 openings we may trade the xp renown curve for the more members who would sufficiently compensate that reknown rate. With this in mind we are looking for players who log in and quest at least twice a week on average. Anyone not active after a month is dismissed unless via communication with myself they have shared why they will be gone so long.

Some of the perks of being a monks only guild, besides uniqueness, is that our ship amenities are selected to help the monk. I also have quite a bit of experience with various monk builds that may help you with yours (I am a heroic completionist, working on epic who has tried quiet a variety of monk splashes, etc. as well as my favorite -- the pure monk). We also have a high level wizened crafter monk who can make anything available from the Crafting Hall system.

If you have questions or are interested in joining, contact me by sending a mail to my character Xeang or send a tell when I am on (which is pretty much every day).

Seek peace always but if threatened then let the soul become a warrior!

This is a great idea I've been thinking of doing myself for quite a while. It's not only a practical idea but adds much to the role-play and gameplay elements, while allowing splash builds to add in abilities not found in pure monks while still encouraging martial arts.

Time prohibits me from joining in on the fun, but I'm personally envious and appreciative of your guild.

    Congrats!

Having a guild rivalry sounds like a really fun project. Since guild renown decay still seems to be on hiatus, why not open your guild up to more people? And what server are you on, Thelanis?

The devs apparently have some sort of guild and ship revamp project in the works for this year--if you have suggestions on how to encourage the existence of guilds like yours and guild associations etc. PLEASE post them. I posted one thing in the suggestion forum about having a "guild treasury" (not just a chest) for plat/ingredients that the guild leader can manage. Something like that would make it SO much easier to do intra and inter-guild competitions, contests, gambling, etc. because you'd have a centralized storage for stuff so you wouldn't have to wait for this or that particular player to get on to get rolling.

I would almost suggest that you create a new character and start up your rival guild yourself.

Thanks to both positive responses about my guild and idea. Regarding suggestions for upcoming changes for guild ships -- hoping it is not too late to get on that boat (sorry pun intended) -- is to have ships designed by / for character classes. In other words there could be a ship designed most appropriate for fighters and paladins that architecture and layout might lend itself to. Or a "Healing" ship for clerics and favored souls. Magic ship for casters. For my and other monks an oriental junket or something like with oriental furniture, etc. with that we could "buy" or earn.

There could be some basic general ships too. And while each specialized class ship can contain the regular amenities they would each have a unique amenity(s) only found on a class ship. A magic user ship might have a fountain amenity that increases total spell points, a healing ship may have something that increases healing spell power, a monk ship something that increases ki, etc.

Guild ships should have a bigger banner or flag that has the name of the guild somewhere also. I have appreciated many an invite onto a ship by someone in a group (anyone with a high ship please?) but once on board not sure of which guild ship I am appreciating (though I always say thank you). Some have some good placements of ammenities -- like all the stat shrines in same place, and the dummy by the bartender so your clickies are renewed while you chew an apple and knock your dummy down and some are very friendly onboard -- all of which makes me want to remember the guild. I know the guild is listed over characters, but it would be a nice touch to see a banner/flag with guild name -- especially since they are in design to make more unique options of colors and such customizable upcoming.

Folks and devs have already confirmed that there will be one place to have something like a "click" all amenities button/ shrine which will be a great time saver but at some cost of exploring the ships and the new customizations. I guess I still vote for the time saver on that one. However other attractions might get people to tour -- for example melee ships might have a fight area (pvp) and archers some kind of shooting gallery that you can compete with others, rogues who can make the biggest bomb boom or a challenging set of padlocks to undo to compete against other rogues or artificers. Druids can host dog shows, etc. (sorry druids, lol).

I think there should be a special cabin for the guild leader that is also invite in only that might have a small amenity benefit -- and likewise officers should have a barracks exclusive to them with something. This would motivate regular members to strive for upper ranks and fulfill the requirements a guild has for such rank. I would like to see maybe another tier or two of members -- leader -- seniors -- officers -- members and -- sure **** deckers/swabs......Someone has to do the dirty work... I jest of course at the last one, but folks like challenges of attainment with compensating rewards -- even if it just a better title.

See how long winded I am? Thanks for letting me ramble. Unfortunately I'm not sure where to put this for the devs to consider, assuming they are still in that place of development.

Anyway that is my idea for the guild changes....
