    Default Lords of Waterdeep Expansion

I was on Lamannia today trying out the new D&D tribute module quest 'Haunted Halls of Eveningstar' and the Thunderholme explorer area. Turbine will want to continue to build out the Forgotten Realms world as it was the most popular pencil and paper D&D campaign as well as the setting for a number of DDO's predecessors such as Baldur's Gate and also DDO's current competitor, Neverwinter.

The most likely place for the next paid content expansion would be Waterdeep. The 2015 expansion could be called 'Lords of Waterdeep' and then be followed by another tribute module from the Waterdeep lore in 2016.

I strongly disagree. The next expansion - if ever such a thing is to curse us again - should be Khorvaire, Argonessen or Arenar. I.e. somewhere in Eberron. Enough FR already, I want to see Sharn or the Talenta plains.

If they must do more FR and if they must do 'expansion' bundles, then they should do Eberron as expansions for the forseeable, with FR content as normal "updates", fleshing out the lower levels over in the Realms, with an epic option on each quest too so as to keep the epic end game alive. The idea that FR is more attractive to new players would be fine if getting to the realms in DDO didn't require first getting to L16 and buying an expansion pack. Not something a new player is going to stick around to sample. They need to get some F2P FR stuff in at the lower levels and allow character creation there if they're going to attract new players on the basis purely of FR setting. And some of it, particularly the lowbie stuff, has to be free to attract new players.

But personally, I'd much rather just see more eberron content in traditional 'update' style with some F2P some P2P and all free to VIPs.

Waterdeep is a bit far from Cormyr. Might be stepping on Neverwinter's toes. Besides, the only /real/ selling point Waterdeep would have in the DDO environment (which is a HUGE one) is Undermountain.

As far as what I really want to see in DDO - More Forgotten Realms...yes, I like it. Specifically, more of Cormyr, maybe some Thay, some Moonsea, maybe even go down to Chult with all the dinosaurs. More Eberron - Mournlands SCREAMS 'send your epic level people here for me to destroy', and I desperately want some Epic Xoriat stuff.

I'd also like to see a Forgotten Realms starter area, where you could make things like a Level 1 Human Paladin of Torm. At the same time, I'd like to see more Eberron Iconics. Particularly things like Inquisitor of the Silver Flame, and maybe a warforged 'Commander in the Last War' kind of thing (I picture a Fighter or anti-undead Ranger with a Racial tree 'pet' that is viable, and gets bonuses against the undead.)

Maybe some new spells to liven things up a bit. Resonating Bolt (it's kinda like Sunbolt, but it's Sonic, and meant for blasting open keeps, and trashing Golems), Mordenkainen's Sword, and Prismatic Wall are all excellent choices. As is the old doombringer, Chromatic Orb, and /absolutely/ more Paladin and Ranger spells. At the very least Bless Weapon for paladins. Maybe give clerics 'Bless Water' so they can make holy water grenades to chuck at the undead?

I'd be happier if the next "expansion" was in Eberron instead of the Realms. And if it does have to be in the FR - please anything but Waterdeep. Please.

Personally, I love travelling to other planes (with the unfortunate exception of the Shadowfell effect) and would love to see additional adventures set within the Abyss or something equally different and epic. I can only take so much Earth-like terrain.

The next expansion to DDO needs to involve Ebberon's conquest of the Forgotten Realms. The utter simpltons running things in the forgotten realms would not be challenging so this should honestly be a low level pack, maybe including a starting area in the capitol of Cormyr, where you make a level one character and conquer the city in 2-3 short quests.

It could then have a high level quest line that ties in from the Ebberon side of things. Arretrikos (sp) has returned, and wishes the players aid in starting over somewhere new, a joint Shavrath/House Cannith invasion of Cormyr. It could involve a raid that has the players bringing Shavrath Coterminous with the Forgotten Realms, ending with Harry returning to his full might by consuming Elmister's soul.

    Edit:
Then the following expansion could be a slap in NWO's face by having it be that the Lord of Blades has decided to try to recreate the circumstances that created the mournlands in order to learn to do it on purpose, and has chosen to conduct his experiments in [insert wherever NWO takes place, make it as close as possible to NWO's setting without breaking copy write/plagiarism laws]. The players are tasked with keeping the local simpletons from interfering, and results in the players dismantling the harpers as well, incidentally. Turbine could use this opportunity to introduce a third druid tree, the blight druid.

Will never happen. Wizards is all Forgotten Realms and I'm sure they want all the other companies whom they license to, to do the same. Thus all new content will be in FR, even Rowan hinted that on DDOcast.

If Shadowfail is indicative of what future "expansions" are going to be, I'm glad that expansions have been scrubbed from any future release. The quality of Shadowfail is just barely better than Druid's Deep in terms of XP and loot that cost of that particular "expansion" went straight into the free portion of the game for that update. And if just a slight increase in the XP is the only fix for that "expansion", it shows that no one at Turbine cares about their product after it was released... but we've all learned about that previous from the House C Challenges already, didn't we? Nothing being done to the end chain Shadowfail armor shows that there's no love for giving paying customers quality (since all players including VIP had to purchase the bloat priced pack to access its contents).

So I rather the Devs focus on making regular quest packs.

If there's some need to make a quality expansion (and the key word is "quality"), I much rather the Devs focus on Eberron content. I've suggested that continuing the Amrath storyline is Expansion worthy. Others have suggested expansions involving the other continents of Eberron and I'd agree that would be worthy of an expansion, if done currently. Heck, expanding the Demon Sands storyline might even be worthwhile, if done properly. Of course, if Turbine gains access to a different D&D campaign setting, that too would be expansion worthy.

But exploring other parts of Forgotten Realms? No. Pack worthy, yes. Expansion worthy? No. Especially after the release of Shadowfail, I'd rather throw my money in a hole than support a bad bloated pack in a dull campaign setting that features more Epic vermin and Epic commoners.

The Sword Coast is probably an area not authorized by Hasbro/WoTC for development by Turbine.

They have to leave room for an eventual extension to NWO.

Lol whereas I can only take so much 'blasted'-like terrain. Shavarath is so dull.... It's why I wouldn't want mournlands or Khyber (or Underdark for that matter) or the demonwastes if they WERE to expand into Khorvaire. I think Arenar and Argonessen would make much more interesting epic areas than yet more life-free blasted lands. Apparently though if it's not grey and lifeless, it's not 'epic'. Or something. I don't know. I just know it's boring to look at.

But still, finishing the planar plot line really ought to be some kind of priority before they branch out into even more Forgettable Realms.

And please, not Myth Drannor. Its a fun PnP area ONCE every other campaign or so, but the mithil would get super annoying super fast in a video game. Unless it's changed in 4th Ed (since that's the time line we're on), maybe it would work. Bit unimaginative to go there though. Although, going in that general direction (dalelands, dragon coast) is probably the only way that Turbine can go, since Neverwinter probably has the Sword Coast tied up.

Someone also asked where NWO is based. The clue is in the name btw: it's in and around Neverwinter.

Gianthold is still my favorite terrain, followed by Sschindylryn and the Demonweb. I think the epicness comes from the lack of restrictions which lets the designers imagination run. I spend plenty of time in real life meadows and mountains and have seen my fair share of castles .. please take me to somewhere I can't fly to in real life.

Ah, now sschindylryn and the demonweb I do love, for exactly those reasons. GH I think even with the pass is showing it's age. It still looks the 6+ years old that it is, and the uniformity of colour makes it a bit bland. The demonweb/underdark would suffer much more from this if it weren't for the wide variety of mobs and all the different paths, but even then teh underdark is just too relentlessly dark for me (the clue IS in the name though, which is why I don't complain about it often, its an iconic area, it does look very impressive, I think they've done it justice. I just don't find "the underdark" as a concept particularly interesting, I never have!). GH is for the most part flat and uniformly orangey purple.

What makes GH one of the best areas (to me) is the plot and the quests, which - whilst not that innovative - are just very, very well done, in every way. Everything works. The layouts make sense. The mobs feel like they belong there. The normal>elite scaling makes noticeable differences beyond HP and saves. And then when they epicified it they actually changed the plot so it makes sense when looked at in conjunction with the heroic levels.

...just... very well done. Not my favorite zone/quest bundle, but still very, very good. My favorite quest bundle is actually hands down the Droaam series. I wish they'd a: finish it instead of all this FR *****! and b: scrap attack on Stormreach as a quest and instead make it an urban wilderness zone, or even a challenge. My favorite outdoor area is probably Kings Forest though. Because I can't go to a forest that perfect, and I'm a total hippy at heart.

If there are more expansions in the future, I hope they expand to more worlds rather than "expanding" on what we already have.

Save more areas for updates. If you really want me to PAY again for and expansion, it better be Dragonlance(First gen please), Dark Sun, or even Greyhawk.

Darksun or Dragonlance would need special rules but Greyhawk would be sweet

I think that's a fair proposal, personally. I don't necessarily agree on the preference order but I do agree with the principle.
