Turbine just lost another player.
A shame too since I've paid hundreds of dollars to play this game over the years and have truly enjoyed it.
But, I won't be installing this P2P software on my system. Time to switch to another MMO.

Any lost player is a bad thing.
The fact that losing people over something like this was entirely preventable, had Turbine taken a few moments to actually bothered to communicate and take control of the situation, makes it even worse.

Yes, and the worst is that they were warned by what happened on Lammania... They knew it was bound to blow up once it hit live.

4. Operation of the Akamai NetSession Interface and Your Information

(a) You agree that the Software may send and receive commands and data related to participating publishers' digital information ("Published Content") to and from the Akamai network and other Akamai NetSession Interfaces to facilitate the downloading of Published Content.

(b) Akamai may retain information regarding the transmission of Published Content similar to a normal web server. Such information may include IP Address, URL of the content retrieved, data and time, and file size. None of this information, however, is associated with any personally identifiable information.


Anything transmitted from/to your PC they can keep.

Akamai is reputable software used by a very large number of companies (http://www.akamai.com/html/customers/customer_list.html).

Well it's not needed for the DDO Launcher and it's not wanted by many of the customers...

We already know that it's absolutely not needed to run the game, so it's only linked to the launcher... and the launcher is puny when it comes to download size, it doesn't need a bandwidth management software.

This code was released without the proper controls or opt-in. Our next update will remove the downloader while we review options to improve download speed and technology.

Yeah, the last we heard from Rowan was that this would be GONE with this update. But, as feared, it went live without any word from Turbine, without any explanation. The only thing we've heard is "WAI" and "Don't bother us". So yeah, I'll not be logging in or updating. Maybe if they decide to fix this AS PROMISED. Maybe.

This wasn't a bald-faced lie. I think people are just not understanding that post. The software was, for the Lammania client, installing on client machines without asking first. It may or may not have had the P2P capabilities stripped, not sure.

Either way, these issues have been fixed in the live version.
