Good news! I've been messing around with stream quality settings today and think I've made some significant improvements. Hopefully our next stream will look much better. Thanks!

If - I - died (as happened last week), I turned into a moving camera so we could continue to show the quest on the livestream. However, in general, when a PD member dies and can't be resurrected under whatever rules the PD guild has, that character is out. Generally the character is deleted (or at least taken out of the guild), and the player rolls up a new character at level 1 and begins the journey again.

In terms of a permadeath server, we don't have any plans to do so at this time. I know one issue would be that there is some variation in permadeath rules between guilds, so finding one set of rules for the server that every PD guild would like would probably be a challenge. And if you left it largely open-ended, then is it really necessary to have an entire server set aside for it, since people would be playing by "house rules" anyway? Cool suggestions, though!

Please reconsider.
And for now, throw away your argument regarding all the different house rules.
Maybe you could offload the initial work and have the community define the possible rules, then let the community vote on which would best work. THEN see if DDO staff could create the server under those rules with the least amount of developer effort toward quest modification (like easily scripted commands to implement these rules, e.g. "Strip all shrines from the game" or whatever rules we come up with).
It is my belief that there is a much bigger permadeath community than currently thought.
...and if all looks good and do-able, server resources could be had by either purchasing all the new servers to assign to the newly named permadeath world, OR, merging players from one to another then renaming old world (with all its servers still assigned to it) to the newly named permadeath world.
Again, please give it the initial time and attention to at lease see if our community can give you (DDO) a standard set of rules to work with.

Benefits of a PD (or Hardcore) server:
1) For me, if we had a hardcore server available, my fun would be in the group dynamics and excitement and challenge in making every effort at every turn in a quest to stay alive.
1a) If I die and start from scratch, the quest replayability is not the focus, and neither is getting back to endgame as quick as possible, instead the focus is group-dynamics and efforts to survive.
1b) More communication between the group of players may also promote roleplaying <--which is promoting the essence of D&D.
2) Physics and rules that are hard-coded, not verbal, will make for a more even playing field.
3) Persons playing on this server and picked up in an LFM would not need to be told "we're doing everything we can to survive with no deaths, please pretend with us" ...with the second statement from the group being "I know you're trying to get back to cap as soon as possible, but really try to pretend with us". Instead, they'll know the core goal...all players on the server would know the core goal.
3a) Roleplaying with the hardcore server as a base will (in my belief) be more fun.
3b) Implementing stricter PD rules with the hordcore server as a base will (in my belief) be more fun.
4) Most important in my eyes, with fun coming from the journey instead of the endgame, I would invite my real-life friends to play a once-a-week type session. ***notes on this listed below***
MY issues with roleplaying on our current servers within a hardcore or PD group dynamic are:
1) For me, lack of fun. With the current servers available, my fun is at how good my characters can contribute and play in the end-game quests.
2) For me, emulating or creating verbal rules are not the same as physically hard coded rules. For me, pretending to be excited or pretending to be nervous or pretending to be entertained or pretending I can't utilize the character after a permadeath happening is not the same as really feeling those emotions.
***notes on #4***
TIME (maybe 500 hours) for a new player to catch up to the fun of playing endgame...this is one of my personal perceptions that is hard to measure, but to describe it: I have yet to invite any of my real-world friends who love and have played PnP D&D. I have yet to invite them because to get caught up or even close to contributing in the endgame (which is where my enjoyment comes from) would require much time for them, and that's not ok. All have families that depend on them and I wouldn't want any of them to spend the condensed hours that I have on DDO. My addiction is something I do not want for any of them. BUT IF THE FUN CAME instead from the journey and not the endgame, I would then use DDO as our playground and spend a couple hours a week playing this game with them.
A little background on me...I currently play on Ghallanda, and my 7 main characters (most are multi-TR'd) and 5 bank toons are earned and fun to play and a real addiction for me. I really do enjoy playing them and will for years to come. I have collected many hard-to-come-by items/gear/weapons and it would take any new player to DDO thousands of hours to come close to catching up.
...All that said, I'd like to start a list of IDEAS for this Hardcore world:
1) If we remove the DDO store from the PD/hardcore world, make this world only accessible to VIP and TP monthlong guestpasses. Whala, lack of income due to no store is now resolved.
2) To account for server hang deaths or DDO service hiccup deaths, each character at creation is given 5 tokens of "diety intervention" where you (the diety) can recover from a permanent death (I define permanent death as nobody in your party is able to raise you or nobody is able to take your stone back to Stormreach). This use of a token will also cost your character the permanent loss of one or two Constitution point(s).

Ok, I'll trade ya.
- A separate server to maintain
- Coming up with a ruleset for the new server
- The time and effort to alter existing mechanics for that ruleset
- Would not accommodate all PD modes and rules (compromise rarely means everyone is happy in these situtaions; at best, it means everyone is unhappy to the same degree)
- Once PD is an officially supported and enforced mode, any bugs or server issues that cause a death become much more trouble
With the potential overhead and issues, and given that any guild wanting to run permadeath now has the freedom to do so with their own rules, I don't see the benefit to limiting that by making a separate, enforced server.
