    Default Unable to use path

I am unable to install the game using the file DDOProgressive_4.28.exe which I believe is the installer to use. I've searched the forum here but not found any posts containing the error message, hence this post.

First, I run the installer in Custom mode to choose my larger D: drive as destination:

    Then, it fails:

The same happens if I try to install to my C: drive.
This is all information I get. I have not been able to find any logs or anything more about this error than the dialog. If there is a diagnostics mode for the installer that I can use, then I will enable it. Other games run and install fine on the same computer btw (everquest, battlefield, lord of the rings online, etc)

    My OS
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    CPU: i7-2600 CPU 3.4Ghz
    RAM: 16GB
    System Type: 64Bit

Any advice to get this working would be appreciated. It is weird that the installer stops this soon, this is the first and only game that does not install on this computer.

Have you tried downloading directly from Turbine?

I'm not sure how to - I have never played this game, was going to give it a yank, but it didn't install Are there any direct download links somewhere that I can use?

I can't find it right now, but there should be a path where you get a handful of dat files and an installer and it does the work offline.

    after doing this:

At the top of this and every DDO page, you'll see a gigantic link - "The Game" and after you click or mouseover you'll see another gigantic link - "Download".

Choose the "install THEN play" option. The "Play Instantly" option is crappy.

    https://www.ddo.com/en/game/download
Since you have a forum account, you should be able to follow that link to find the install then play option.

Hello! I am from Russia, and my language not very well, sorry about this.
I have same problem with installation this game. I use the official links from this page: https://www.ddo.com/en/game/download. File ddohigh.exe not do anything after start. File DDOProgressive_4.28.exe are starting OK, but in the end Windows always write this message: "Unable to use path", regardless of disk, which I chose. How I can download the game in this case?

My system: Windows 7 (32 bit)

I'm with the exactly same issue that the russian guy. Neither ddohigh nor DDOProgressive_4.28 work.

I'm going to venture that this error has something to do with write or execute permissions and where temporary or installation files are being stored. Having done a quick Google search, some users have reported that installing DDO or LotRO with the Steam Client was successful where other methods failed.

I'm sorry I can't provide more information, but the circumstances are not well defined.

This issue may well be related to what I came here to write about. Using the Progressive client to install DDO due to stupid bandwidth limitations and enforced router resets, I encountered a very, VERY problematic issue.

All permissions on my Games folder got wiped when DDO started installing. On two different machines.

Not even on an Administrator account was I allowed to so much as see how much space each game took up since, well, NO ONE had permission to do anything in any of the folders under C:\Games\ . Fortunately I was able to get it fixed, at least for most of the games - some of them still remain locked even after DDO has installed.

I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but seriously - wiping out folder permissions on the parent folder of where you're installing to sounds more like malware than a game installer, Turbine. You might want to talk with Happy Cloud about their practices.

I am having the exact same problem (Windows 7). Figured I'd get back to DDO after a prolonged absence, but when the installer won't work...

Have you tried to run the installer as admin and turned off antivirus software?

I think the problem is roughly what the poster 'CalydorEstalon' wrote about. I wouldn't really give both permissions you suggest to a game, let alone to an installation program that operates as crazily as this current one does. I Just installed SWTOR, and it was just double click and play, no problems at all, compared to this. I never had problems back in my XP days with DDO, so maybe it is some sort of compatability problem with later OS's. I might try the Steam solution, but at least not yet keen on the idea of installing Steam just for DDO.

Thanks for your suggestion though, and I'm sure its something minor, and hopefully the Turbine fellows can get it sorted out. I'll check the situation every few weeks or so. Sort of hankering to see where I left my halfling army!

According to my research Windows Vista/7/8 may have issues by giving full access depending on your administrator status. It might be possible that you cannot get full admin rights but had to in order to use that effin' downloading tool correctly. I chose the Steam workaround and it works fine so far. Installing all updates at the moment.

LOTRO people had the same problem btw. and one forum thread suggested using a different download link. Unfortunately that link option is not available for DDO..... I mean, of course it is not....

I tried the *doawnload, then install* option for DDO. It wouldn't work. I built a complete new machine to enjoy DDO at maximum graphics and stuff but Turbine always puts obstacles in my way whenever I upgrade my hardware....

    - edit -
Steam option: register at Steam, install Steam, download game (standard free to play download, everything else got a price tag there) and install game.

Well I was hoping to be able to get by without ever having to touch steam... but well seems like I am forced to!

Ha! Steam did not work out either!!!

But I could take an old backup from an external hard drive, copy it over... and download all the updates since then. Seems to work fine.
That Happy Cloud really does not seem good... come back Pando, all is forgiven!

Well, will not ninstall DDO via Steam as well, other options like mini client tools on this forum were immediately marked as malware. If you are using Avast, be warned. Now I cannot install by Happy Cloud OR Steam. Seems Turbine wants me to use my old PC and suffer zone in crashes forever.

I don't know why I have so much trouble with Turbine but other games run as smooth as it can be.
