    Default Ranger/rogue build?

Hi all, so I've just returned over a several year long break and noticed that quite a bit has changed!

Before I left I had started working on a ranger/rogue build, that was primarily ranger just with the ability to open locks/disable traps.

Right now I have a 28 point Drow with 3 levels of ranger and 2 levels of rogue

    Str 14

    Dex 18

    Con 10

    Int 19( ate a +1 int tome)

    Wis 11

    Cha 11

For feats I took Mobility and Favored Enemy undead, but those I can easily change out if they are no longer really useful.

Is there a build that is still salvageable with this that I could continue with leveling her or should I scrap it and start over?

    Thanks!

Well, since you're only lvl 5, it would be easy to start over; but since you've already taken a +1 INT tome, I can understand not wanting that to go to waste. Since this is an older character, you should also have both an LR +0 and LR +20 Hearts of Wood, letting you remake this char as you see fit. Did you want to stick with the rgr / rog concept, or switch to something else entirely?

I was still interested in a ranger/rogue combination if those are still viable yes. I like the idea of ranged dps with the optional viability at disabling traps.

Here are two suggestions. Either one uses the +20 heart because of class changes.

Both have a strong melee base with ranged capability. I'd hate to see you spend a
lot of time leveling a ranged-focus character only to find that you really struggle later
in the game due to bursty ranged DPS output. But only you know what will make your play
time rewarding, so just take these in the spirit that they're given, as suggestions.

    unbongwah's Mechassin build. It's a Drow-based, Assassin-Mechanic build.

EllisDee's TempestTrapmonkey. Ideally, it's a Human build, but there is chatter about
using racial weapons (so the Drow would be Scimitar). You'd have to juggle the starting
stats quite a bit. Or you could just roll up a Human version to see how it plays first.

What alignment is your char; and do you have access to any P2P classes?

    Synergy
i prefer Elf, have Drow version as well.
Elf gets Grace and slew of rogue/ranger synergy.
many will add Ponk as well.

Another idea: drow rgr 15 / pal 4 / rog 1. The hvy pally splash adds Divine Grace & Divine Might, boosting both your survivability & DPS; while rgr 15 gets you 4 Favored Enemies and two lvl 4 spell slots (CSW & FoM).

Also have a look at my Tempest Warpriest.

Ranger 15/ Rogue 5 (or 14/6) opens up some great possibilities also.

With this combination you'd go for knife specialization from rogue (+1 crit range/ +1 crit multipler) to effectively dual-wield a sword of shadows in each hand. Then add all the nice spells, and auto-grant feats from ranger and tier 4 tempest abilities for some outstanding damage. Rangers get 6 skill pts per level, and share many skills with rogues so keeping your skills maxed shouldn't be too hard (especially if you go crazy with INT like your current build). This build won't hit it's power curve til level 12 though, so some patience is required. And it's easy to build it as a dex build with dex to hit and damage (some will call this a trap, but I think on a first life toon it's a fine option).

Willan has a nice post with a similar (though STR based) build (look for hunter's knife, it's a ways down):
