I would like to thank all for showing some support on this topic I love that in less than two days there have been almost 1000 views I would love it if everyone just left a one or two sentence feedback. I do not care if you want or do not want this I just want Turbine to see what our thoughts are and I hope it just makes them take a second to think about it some.
Again thanks for the support since this is my first ever topic here on the forums.
Hi! May I have your Soul???
The short answer is because Ranger is an _old_ class and predates pet classes in ddo. They gave rangers both TWF and Archery to make up for the lack of a pet. The Ranger class is doing well with the enhancement changes, but overall could really use a complete overhaul to take advantage of newer game mechanics.
Now for those who say... well in original D&D....
If we go back to pen and paper style play, then:
- get rid of Spell Points, casters gets to cast 1 spell per slot per rest.
- get rid of all enhancements (use prestige class levels instead)
- level 1 characters would average less than 10 hp, and could die in one hit.
- and much, much more...
Make it the level 20 deepwood sniper cap ability!?
As oppose to PnP make it full level?
Make it a Spider instead of a wolf?
This would make deepwood sniper a more likely choice for rangers as far as a template.
Otherwise the popularity and power of the other templates is fine and I really wouldn't want a half-hit dice boring wolf either. Especially if I still played a Ranger. (Which would only happen if they fixed Deepwood sniper.)
I wouldn't agree to a companion at all except that Wizards get one for no apparent reason. Why not deepwood snipers?

We don't need PvP, leave that for some other game. And rangers don't really need pets either. I see this as 99% "look at my cute dog!" rather than anything functional, it's a waste of dev time. Pets are already useless enough without a half-strength version of one. Though if it could pull levers I guess 1% of the time it would find a legitimate use.
I think you should look at the cospets those are just for looks anything that can attack is never useless maybe not used well. but I do think that PvP has a place in this game like any other. games are made to be for all not just one person, so there is a huge player base for PvP, myself NOT included I have played around before and with groups this could be fun I think "so that is why I say an outdoor wilderness PvP area. and as I have said in this game making the pet half the power is not an issue in my mind this game is to fast paced for this to be an issue IMO. and having someone to pull a lever or carry your soulstone is OK with me......

Paladins "should" get a warhorse.
Wizards "should" get a familiar.
Neither do, along with rangers. The reason why? Because Artificers and druids are pay classes. None of the free classes get their pets because it will satisfy the "I want a pet" itch without turbine getting its cut of TP.
The only solution I can see Turbine going for would be to charge for an add-on pet. I'm not sure how players would respond to it. It might have been a "neat" idea to make the panthers from the MOTU functional pets but they chose hireling instead.

Ahem right back atcha. Turbine's original plan was to force everyone to purchase artis. Players fought HARD to get a favor unlock and it's such a PITA that most people just buy the class.
edit: Please take a moment to thank a dino player if you've unlocked arti on any server. I did, when I did.

I agree that it should be a add on and should cost TP(AKA real money). I would gladly pay for this as it is I am a prem player and would have it no other way and if people wanted to grind favor for it then that would be the choice they made. I love that about Turbines modle on this game you CAN get everything for free if you are will to put in the time for it.
If they want Warhorse or Familiar's for those classes I am all for it. maybe make the Pally's Warhorse be like extra storage in quests and/or make it like a ability that you can do a CHARGE. a clicky lets say where you hop on your horse and run through the crowd hitting all in the path for X damage. maybe the familiar for Wiz could help with certain types of DC's or with self healing of Wiz maybe even something to help distract from the Caster for a short time for them to be able to regroup themselves.
I do not know really but it is something I would pay for...... A couple of times.

Perhaps Turbine developers could add a familiar/animal companion/henchman system available to all classes, basically serving as a custom hireling. Such a companion would need a "reincarnation" system so as to follow the character through the entire game.
On the matter of "DDO gave us TWF and Archery b/c they didn't have pets at the time": how about allowing rangers to choose two of the three?
1) Turbine could add another gear slot: pets could have armor, collar, and handwraps... these must do force dmg, since they're glowing purple
Also there could be an item created that, when combined with a cloak in a stone of change, would produce a pet cloak that would go in the armor slot. i.e. Cursed cloak of protection from rain (charisma -4).
I don't know whether or not we can create Dragontouched armor for pets, but that should be an option as well.
2) Just because something isn't good in epics doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.
3) IMHO, spells that are restricted to "self" should be changed to "self/pet."

Yes they can. Druid pets can equip light armor, while artificer pets can equip docents.
Also... if you want a pet, you'll have to be able to take care of it. Do rangers have enough spell points to heal their notional pet? Do they have enough spell points to do that and buff their pets and themselves?
Exactly what we dont need !! Something that doesnt serve much purpose or do anything .
Then again if they did add them that would be the we gave rangers more power and there now balanced thing !!!
yes. ranger buffs suck and there are only a handful of useful buffs. rangers can also use wands with no umd check. best case scenario a ranger can get past lives for extra sp, craft a GS sp item and make a con op, they will be wearing a wisdom item anyways to increase sp and it will vary with player how much invested, enhancements increase sp, be a helf and take cleric dilly, there are plenty of clickies to replenish sp to farm for, get druid past life, take augment summoning feat, use Magic Fang and Animal Growth ranger spells though I don't know if Animal Growth works on pets and im sure there are other ways to increase sp and make pets stronger and more useful.

You are the one choosing not to play alts.
Casual player now investing way less than I used to into the game, playing 1-3 months at a time and still want nothing to do with Reaper. #improvepuggrouping#alldifficultiesmatter
I must say I do not agree with Ranger buffs sucking, I love having resist/protection, ram's, barks, longstrider, FOM. and I am sure there are others but I have been able to finish quests by taking the healing role when the Cleric has ran out of SP and stand back with my bow and heal the tank, I understand not ideal at all but I have pulled it off and if you cycle through light, med, and serious cures then you can do well for just a min. I just think this should be looked at and I hope that Turbine reads this and just takes a look at it. I still am having fun with the game so this is in no way a deal breaker for me.
