And it turns out that the theoretical maximum number of Ameliorating Strike procs for a Tempest/Warpriest would be at least 12 with DoD and some doublestrike (Thousand Cuts) - or possibly 16 if you can get significant offhand doublestrike without the 18 and 20 Tempest cores...

Never managed to verify more than 8 myself though, the combat log doesn't scroll far enough back by the time there's a lull in the fighting... anyone know of a way to get it to write directly to local disk too? ;-)

Turns out it's not actually too difficult to get to ~80 search/disable by 28 with this thing (12 ranger / 7 cleric / 1 rogue split) while still keeping all of DoD & Evasive Dance 3, Ameliorating Strike, ddoor and Exposing Strike/Sniper Shot. Beyond that, requires tomes, stacking bonus gear, and other interesting stuff... or reallocating APs.

80 is enough for a lot of lowish-level EE already.

Dropping from FvS 6 to 4 costs you lvl 3 spells, your lvl 6 bonus feat, and lvl 5 elemental DR; but with pal 3 you gain defensive stance and pal 4 will get you Turn Undead. Rgr 12 / cleric 5 / pal 3 would also work, since that lets you keep lvl 3 divine spells.

It costs 54 APs to pick up Ameliorating Strike plus the first rank of Dance of Death, so you can't have both until at least lvl 14. There's 6 APs left over which I haven't decided what to do with; likewise the lvl 24 feat.

Cleave and Gt Cleave are no longer pre-reqs for Overwhelming Crit; but Cleave is still a pre-req for Momentum Swing, so you'll need to take the feat if you wish to pick it up.

Anyone on Sarlona got a ton of Tome pages they wanna give me so I can try out a Morninglord version using dual Phosphors?

How did the morning lord workout?

Sadly, no one gave me enough Tome pages to claim a pair of Phosphors, so I haven't tested a ML variant yet. How stingy!

I suppose it's finally time to post a reasonably complete build plan, with some notes...

(BTW, anyone else notice EllisDee37's new (still unfinished) character planner?)

My current character has "too much" Wis (since I only have level 4 spells, 14 after gear and buffs would be enough), I'd think my build points would be better spent according to this thing when I ETR... and I might exchange Great Cleave for something else too; it was great for leveling but not really optimal in epics with 100% offhand attacks.

But for even more low-level ease of play or independence from gear requirements, maybe swap back some points into Wis from Cha.

Reflex saves could be better. Dex tomes would be nice for both that and longbow attack mod, and would also help qualify for Dodge as one of the feats.

I didn't bother with Khopesh Proficiency because I figured the benefits weren't that great really - early on I was using two-handers and someone was selling Axes of Adaxus for a reasonable price, so I went from two-handers to scimitar offhand and Adaxus mainhand after 6 Ranger. Possibly use an offhander that gives bonuses or nice effects to mainhand too for those cleaves. (Erosive of Deception for example. This thing gets enough sneak attack dice to be noticeable, anyway.)

Reallocating enhancements to maximize trap skills is an alternative, with those maxed this thing can get something like +7 permanent and +10 temporary to disable, and much more still to search and spot, but that's out of DPS and self-healing. Anyway, this build can also work for a first-lifer joining TR-zergtrains in the trapper role if you do that - I did. (They may also like your DDoor.)

On single foes, hit Warpriest Smite first for that +5% damage on special attacks and then Dance of Death; on groups hit Dance of Death first to Smite several. Then all the other DoD-able specials... Exposing Strike would be DoD-able too, but I preferred to have the ranged alternative because I switch to bow quite often anyway.

Strongly recommend scimitar offhand and axe mainhand for Legendary Dreadnought at least; Anvil of Thunder hits with both weapons, multi-hits during Dance of Death, and the on-crit stun procs on the offhand crit too so the scimitar crit range for that is nice. Though, the optimal destiny would probably be FotW anyway, or possibly Divine Crusader which also has DoD-enabled special attacks among other nice stuff.

Here's a partial draft of what trapping-related enhancements you might want to take (eventually) if going this route:

    Enhancements (48 of 80 AP)

    Human (18 AP)
    • Saves Boost
      1. Dragonmark Focus: Orien I, Skill Focus: Nimble Fingers III, Improved Recovery
      2. Lesser Dragonmark: Dimension Door, Skill Focus: Awareness III
      3. Skill Mastery, Heroism
      4. Greater Heroism

    Mechanic (7 AP)
    • Arbalester
      1. Mechanics III, Awareness III

    Deepwood Stalker (11 AP)
    • Far Shot
      1. Increased Empathy III, Versatile Empathy I
      2. Skill Boost III

    Arcane Archer (4 AP)
    • Arcane Archer
      1. Awareness III

    Warpriest (4 AP)
    • Smite Foe
      1. Awareness III

    Tempest (4 AP)
    • Shield of Whirling Steel
      1. Improved Reaction III

Note that early on you're much better off taking Skill Boost from Human instead.

Spells, remember that Wild Instincts is +10 Spot and Find Traps is half cleric level +search...

Anyhow. When you can take level 13, you can have all of the above except Wild Instincts. At that point you'll have... hm, let's see... 16 ranks of Search & Disable, and 14/16 of either Concentration or Spot.
Enhancements total +13 permanent search/spot, +7 disable. Spell and SLA self-buffs, +7 Search, +4 Spot & Disable. Skill boost +6 everything. Stat mod... well, let's assume +5 Int mod (14 base + 6 item, right?) and +2 Wis mod, because swap stat items aren't that hard to find nowadays.

You should also be able to afford +5 tools for +7 disable, and IIRC those have been around even on Wayfinder's Auction House.

    That'll then be, search 16 + 13 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 47 and disable 16 + 7 + 4 + 6 + 5 + 7 = 47 + d20, with just an Int item... OR no Int item at all but with Korthos +3 trapper gear.

http://ddowiki.com/page/DDO_informat...s_and_locks/11 says "suspected requirement to disable everything" for effective level 13 quests (11 +2 heroic elite) is 53. Assuming that's true, and since d20 is at least 1 -> 48 total... no exploding boxes.

And that's with no "twink" gear at all, no guild buffs, no friendly bard... just a first life all-f2p STR-based human with 1 level of rogue wearing ML 1 guaranteed-drop gear.

Spot is usually lower, but 14 + 13 + 4 + 6 + 2 = 39, you might miss the extra-hard hidden door in Tomb of the Forbidden but not much more than that.

You could probably keep up with a first-lifer's Cannith crafting abilities for a few levels longer but after that you'll need to hunt for gear, maybe even farm for specific named items.

Question about ameliorating strike with 12 Ranger -- if you have 100% offhand through Tempest enhancements, does that mean that every time you use Ameliorating Strike, it's automatically at least 2 procs every time?

It seems ranger enhancements had gotten even better while I was away from the game.

That does help but now I feel that the Ameliorating Strike is a bit expensive compared to what else I could get with those points... even so, that's several hundred points of "free" healing fairly often in melee. And self-cast Deathward is still good to have.

So, looks like this build would still work?

Well... it naturally doesn't proc when you miss.

Yes: the only problem (if you want to call it that) is DWS got seriously buffed last year; but since Ameliorating Strike is 22 APs and you'll want to spend up to 43 APs in Tempest (all of the T5s are good to have), you either don't have enough APs to spend in DWS or you have to sacrifice some of Tempest's T5s. E.g., 36 APs Tempest, 22 APs WP, 21 APs DWS (Adv Sneak Atk for +1 crit range), 1 AP human (Dmg Boost).

Basically whatever you do, you have to give up DPS for Ameliorating Strike.

Yes indeed... though the 7 cleric is still nice to have for the Deathward and such, and AS isn't as important any more even while soloing once you get Cocoon and such.

Becomes even more of a build where you may want to do enhancements differently based on the rest of the party, if any. And also quest difficulty.

I mean, maxed trapper spec would still give up both AS and ASA if you really need to.

My current character (level 28, haven't played it to 29 yet) is well short of ASA in the DWS tree but has some points in trap skills and dragonmark of ddoor.

Remember that Rejuvenation Cocoon's HoT only lasts as long as the temp HPs do. So you will hit a point where Cocoon alone is no longer sufficient for in-combat heals, because mobs can do >150 pts of dmg in a single hit. That means you need to invest in other healing sources, of which AS is one option. So is CSW, Sacred Ground, etc.

Yes... my "emergency heal now" button hasn't been Cocoon anyway but CCW with Emp Heal and Quicken. (7 cleric -> 3 level 4 spells; Deathward, FoM and the "spontaneous casting" CCW that you can't get rid of anyway.) Replacing Great Cleave with, say, Maximize would boost that still more.

Oh well. Not getting 100% offhand attacks any more since that got moved to the l18 core, which is a pity.

Actually, I would like to know how would be a morninglord with this tempest warpriest build, as I was looking for something to make a fresh level 15 iconic first life. I understand that would be Pal3/Ranger12/Cleric5? What if I want to make a shadar-kai with the Rogue1/Ranger12/Cleric7? Any of those builds are viable nowadays?

    2. Grim Precision (Tier 3 Shadowdancer)
    3. Lithe (Tier 2 Shadowdancer)
    4. Rejuvenation Cocoon (Tier 1 Primal)
The idea was to use dual Phosphors to start, then switch to Mornhs, hence IC:Blunt+Pulverizer. However, with the 10th anniversary freebie, if I was starting fresh, it makes sense to spec for one of the weapons in it, like Celestia. Or just go with a conventional khopesh build, which requires a bit of feat swappage, natch.

In order to save some APs, I skip Elaborate Parry+Evasive Dance, with the intention of taking epic Reflexes to hit no-fail saves (I hope!).

There are a few spare feats on this build; the question is do you invest in more survivability (Mobility / Bulwark of Defense / Elusive Target) or ranged DPS (PBS / IC:Ranged / Doubleshot). [DEX is too low for Combat Archery.] If you do take the ranged feats, you may wish to consider tweaking enhancements to take Morphic Arrows, which makes Pulverizer apply to bows. Alternatively, you might be able to max out your Dodge bonus just thru gear and don't need Dodge+Mobility; in which case you can drop those feats to pick up PBS + IC:Ranged.

Likewise, you need to decide early on whether you're going for Arborea or Plane of Earth (or other element); if it's PoE, you'll want to max out Spellcraft to boost Acid Spellpower. Note that Arborea's Enhancement bonus breaks Celestia's light property, so plan accordingly what to do with your raider's freebie.
What if I want to make a shadar-kai with the Rogue1/Ranger12/Cleric7?
It would look pretty much like what mna or I posted for human, minus a feat and some skill pts.

... AND the dropped feat is the dragonmark, which is a lot of the utility right there. Still, playable.

Actually I sort of wonder if the human variant wouldn't be "good enough" for EllisDee37's repository, maybe even in a "specialty: general utility character" classification... with the DM, healing and elite-streak trapping on a first life f2p, even if the DPS is somewhat behind the more established 18/1/1 tempest trapmonkey.

Interesting question: when I first cooked up these builds, DWS was weaksauce and the higher-level Tempest abilities were sorta blah, so you weren't giving up that much DPS with a deeper MC; and you gained a lot of free healing plus other perks from cleric 7. Now, though, the DPS sacrifice is a lot bigger compared to pure Tempests or TTs, which makes this build more niche-y. I was kinda hoping Warpriest would've been buffed by now so it would open up some new build options, but no such luck so far.

Default DEX to hit and damage on Scimitars w/ Merely 3 Levels of Ranger

I was recently building an Elf pure cleric, and I wanted it to have primarily a role of healing, protection, and support--which is quite different from the builds I've seen in this thread. (I'm not sure what their role is supposed to be.)

However, I figured out along the way that you can get DEX to hit and damage with scimitars on an Elf w/ only three levels of ranger by using the Valenar Grace enhancement from the Elf Enhancement tree alongside the second core (aka "Tempest") from the Tempest Enhancement tree.

Here are some warpriest/tempest builds based on the idea . . .

I've been making repeated updates to them, so if you'd like please hit the little >> after savingsoul in the quote below to see the latest version.

    I give you, Amazing Grace . . .

    Here is a 2 Rogue - 3 Ranger - 15 Cleric version . . .

It forgoes the Two Weapon Defense and Intensify Spell feats for Evasion, along with some Sneak Attack damage and Skill Points, from Rogue.

It also swaps the Kensei enhancements for two ranks in Improved Parry (+6 PRR from Tempest), while retaining full ranks in a Haste boost.

The Style of Play, remaining Feats, and other Enhancements are the same as above.

***If you are wondering how to level up before you have both DEX to hit and damage w/ scimitars, see the parenthetical following the short bow option in the Equipment suggestions below.

If you have access to the Monk class, see Amazing Grace III:
-It substitutes two levels of Monk for the two levels of Rogue on Amazing Grace II, thereby gaining two feats while retaining Evasion, so that you get Dodge and get back Intensify Spell.

    Here is a 2 Paladin - 3 Ranger - 15 Cleric version . . .

Like Amazing Grace II, it forgoes the Two Weapon Defense and Intensify Spell feats; however, in this case the primary gain is Divine Grace.

This build also features the alternative enhancement set--aka "Flawless"--from Amazing Grace I.

The Style of Play and remaining Feats are the same as above.

    *Equipment:
    -For Amazing Grace I - IV . . .
--Halcyonia, Gauntlets of Eternity (for levels 13 - ~16), or Shamanic Fetish (inc. Radiance) for Devotion &c.
--Be sure to have (a) Combustion and Radiance item(s) in any case if you are going w/ Divine Crusader.
--Iron Mitts, Purple Dragon Gauntlets, or Memoriam for Healing Amp.
    --Light Armor
---Easy options while leveling: Snakeskin Vest, Parasitic Breastplate (or Rakshasa Hide)
---Aspirations: Drow Outrunner Armor, Hyde of the Goristo (or Whisperchain in the meantime, though you can get a permanent blur effect and spell for merely one ap from Warpriest).
--Optional: Short Bow for ranged combat.
---This possibility is especially helpful if you are a new player or have TR'd into "Amazing Grace II" and have not yet acquired DEX to hit and damage w/ scimitars, as you start w/ an Ember Shortbow for free and quivers and arrows are available at the Hammer and Chain in the Stormreach Harbor. You can also use DEX to hit on a quarterstaff for merely one ap in the Thief-Acrobat tree after you achieve your first rank; the critical profile won't be as good as a bow, but you will hit things more frequently w/ the quarterstaff. In any case, you can use either a quarterstaff [blunt] or a short bow [pierce] as needed. Moreover, since if you use quarterstaffs, you will be spending at least one point in the Thief-Acrobat tree anyway, you might as well use it as your main, taking full ranks in Thief Acrobatics and Sly Flourish along w/ Acrobat Staff Training, until you reach your third level of Ranger and have access to both hit and dmg w/ DEX on Scimitars; that way you will merely need to reset the Thief-Acrobat tree once, and put all the freed-up ap's into the Elf tree for Grace. EDIT: I used short bows and quarterstaffs until I had enough ap's for Grace; I then switched to two Scimitars and the results were already excellent due to the Valenar enhancements even though I didn't yet have DEX to hit.
-Amazing Grace I & IV can also wear Medium and Heavy Armor, though Light Armor is more likely to let you capitalize on your high dexterity.

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...Battle-Clerics
This happened mainly because I had the following experiment fresh in my mind . . .
Quote Originally Posted by savingsoul View Post

However, if it does work, you will not likely get any bonus to crit threat or multiplier from swash . . . and you won't get the +10% stacking chance to make off-hand attacks from tempest, unless there is a bug . . . I'll have to try this . . .

    TEST RESULTS
    On 3 Ranger - 3 - Bard - 1 Cleric Veteran Helf w/ one scimi:
*Scimi shows +1 weapon enhancement from swashbuckler.
--Shows dex to dmg from swashbuckler.
    --Shows Righteous Weapon enhancement.
--Does not show any benefit to crit range or multiplier.
--Does not show dex to hit (attack mod) from Finesse feat.

    On 3 Ranger - 3 - Bard - 1 Cleric Veteran Helf w/ two scimis:
    *Scimi shows Righteous Weapon enhancement.
    -Shows dex to hit.
-Does not show any benefits from swashbuckler.
    -i.e., behaves as expected.

    Summary:
According to the text, you must be twf for the scimi to qualify as a light weapon. However, dex to dmg and +1 enhancement from swash work on a single scimi.

    Conclusion:
You have to be twf for dex to hit on scimis from 3 ranger, but you do not have to twf w/ 3 ranger to have a single scimi qualify as a light weapon--and hence qualify, apparently, for swashbuckling.

    I.E.: There is a bug!

I suppose the next thing to try would be 3 Bard - 6 Ranger - 1 Cleric to see what happens w/ dex to dmg from ranger. However, I've reached my lab-time quota for today. Back to questing for me. Let me know what you find if you try it first!
Anyway, I think it is ideal for a dedicated healer not to go w/ less than 15 levels of Cleric, so the need for only 3 levels of ranger to get dex to hit and damage on one of the few favored weapons with a decent critical profile--i.e. the scimitar--was good news for me, especially since I love good reflex saves, evasion, and ac. The obvious thing to do after I made the discovery was to add two levels of fighter (2 feats), rogue (evasion), or monk (2 feats and evasion) for 15 Cleric/3 Ranger/2 X.

So naturally, after figuring all of this out, I wanted to do some research to see if someone had already addressed the possibility, so that I could maybe learn from it, and that is how I came across this thread. However, I was surprised to find that, as far as I can tell, nobody mentioned Valenar Grace.

Cleric favored weapon - elf (elves make good weapons).

    Elf Valenar training.
He even mentioned Valenar training. I was thinking maybe Valenar Grace was implied, but when you read it within the context of the thread you can tell that he was more likely thinking of the dex to dmg on scimitar you get from the core of the Tempest Enhancements rather than from Elf. Oh well.

Since I've already learned a lot from this thread, and the people involved in the exchange here were/are knowledgeable about ranger/clerics, I was hoping to get some feedback on the builds I came up with to capitalize on this possibility. I know things have changed a bit since the OP, but maybe you know about those updates as well.

I'd appreciate any comments or criticisms you may have.

It would look pretty much like what mna or I posted for human, minus a feat and some skill pts.
this looks like a great build

im playing after a long time so can some plz tell me how to play this build as a human and with khopeshs instead of maces?

and what skills should i take

    Cleric 14 / ranger 6 (War domain)

The addition of domains adds some new options for this old build concept. This one is similar to rgr 6 / pal 14 builds like Eth's NYB 2.0, swapping paladin for cleric with War domain so you keep Holy Sword. Big boost to healing vs the survivability benefits from Sacred Defender. War domain also grants ALL weapon proficiencies at cleric lvl 5...or it will once it's unbugged.

    3. Hail of Blows (Tier 2 Flowers)
    4. Rejuvenation Cocoon (Tier 1 Primal)
    5. Legendary Tactics (Tier 1 Dreadnought)
Dreadnought would be higher DPS, of course, but Crusader feels more appropriate to this build which also functions as a party healer (Sacred Ground, +5 caster levels from Divine ED). If you want Blessed Blades for DR-breaking, change to one of the Good alignments instead of TN.

Onatar's Forge + War domain adds +10 DCs, which I hope is enough - along w/Div Might + Legendary Tactics - to keep Stunning Blow & Dire Charge DCs acceptable.

    1. Endless Turning III, Interrogation, Purge the Wicked
    2. Consecration III, Flames of Purity I
    3. Sacred Ground, Empyrean Magic
    4. No Regret, Crusade
    5. Castigation, Heavenly Presence, Celestial Champion
    6. Strike Down
Twists of Fate (31 fate points)
    1. Grim Precision (Tier 3 Shadowdancer)
    2. Balanced Attacks (Tier 3 Primal)

War domain weapon proficiencies still bugged? or already fixed?
