Default Looking for TWF build suggestions

I'm not too happy about my pure rogue, especially since I'm more attracted to soloing and I don't see Assassinate to be a viable option for EH Gianthold and beyond, at least not on a Str-build.

I'm looking for build suggestions to TR her into a different melee build, but I don't know what to pick. I'm not rushing it, as

    What I have:
    2xBalizarde, 2xAgony, Pinion, Mornh.
+4 Tomes, except for Wis (+3) and Str (+5)
36 build points: 1 Rogue past Life, 1 Heart of Wood +20 to LR into a past life which supports true neutral alignment.

    What I want:
TWF Dps, preferably unsituational, but some SA damage is fine as well.
    Damage Mitigation (Evasion, Dodge, ...)
Self-Sufficiency (e.g. Heal Scrolls, Cocoon or other means of self-healing)
Including Manyshot for Pinion would be nice, but is not a must

    What I don't want:
    Fight with Handwraps
    Play a Barbarians

    What I'm currently considering:
    13Rog/6Ran/1X (Fgt/Mnk/FVS)
    8Fgt/6Ran/6Monk
Toons on Orien: Meinir // Flodur // Twiddler // Thorkar // Impetor // Juliacantor // Minor all Soko Irrlicht

Have fun, I chose IC:ranged over ICiercing because of Balizardes.

FotW destiny with, dance of flowers, cocoon and a 3rd of your choice for twists (unearthly reactions, brace for impact, energy sheath or standing in stone).

Interesting, thank you. I think I like it.

How about dropping toughness, taking Dodge as level 6 monk feat, allowing to take Elf as a class for extra damage enhancements?

Prior to level 10, where you get one with the blade, would you still use rapiers, even if this means not being centered?

What's the benefit of the 3rd Ranger level in favor of 10 Monk?

3 ranger lets you get the second core of tempest for 10% offhand. Along with deft strikes you get 100% offhand attacks.

I've been planning something similar to TR my fighter into, but I'd go elf 8fighter/6monk/6ranger for free manyshot and pick up the dragonmark for displacement. The elf with dragonmarks has great synergy with this build since everything you would get from the racial tree is useful, you're not wasting anything to get to the useful stuff.
Unarmed monk guide with builds|The Arcane Warrior: wiz/fighter hybrids|White Feather Sniper: CC/dps focused deepwood stalker|The Divine Cuisinart: divine crusader tempest|The Count of Monte Cristo: swashbuckler|Hassan's Assassin: dex assassin|Dubbell O'Seven: WF artificer|Santa's Little Slayer: dragonmarked elf centered kensai

Have you spent any thoughts what weapons to use while leveling on that build and which class progression to take?

To be honest, the levelling is horrendous no matter how you do it. With every combination I've considered, some key aspect of the build is left out until pretty much epic levels. If I get around to doing it, I was thinking I would go pure elf ranger (simply because I want to and because that was the build I had originally planned for that character) and then LR+20 into the 8fighter/6monk/6ranger. That solves both the leveling and heroic weapon choice problem. It's not an ideal solution, but the least painful I've come up with so far.

    13Rog/6Ran/1X (Fgt/Mnk/FVS)
    8Fgt/6Ran/6Monk
Well. Some variant of Warpriest/Ranger? Up to 12 cleric/FvS I suppose... maybe 11 cleric/6 ranger/3 rogue? (How was it again with a level check instead of UMD check if you don't quite qualify for no-fail without either?) Or up to 12 Ranger. Elf and Silver Flame, former for racial bonus to both Balizarde and Pinion and maybe displacement dragonmark, and latter religious bonus to Pinion.

(I was actually thinking of eventually doing something like that myself next life with my current first-life l17 warchanter that got two raider boxes... don't have FvS myself yet but... would be nice to be able to cast Deathward from blue bar.)

Here are the feats, enhancements, and gear set I have planned. I'd go Fury for main ED and twist standing in stone, a dance of flowers, and cocoon. You end up with about 79 PRR, 25 dodge, shadow veil, and 22 minutes of displacement, solid twf dps, and a very decent ranged option. There is room to make some changes if you want to emphasize certain build aspects over others. And the gear is just what I've come up with so far, I'm sure there's room for improvement.

But as I said, no matter how you level, something gets left until the very end. If you end on fighter, you don't get centered light blades until epics. If you end on monk, you can't take grandmaster of forms. And if you end on ranger, you don't get most of the twf line until epics.

    Feats:
    dragonmark
    extend
    gtwf
    power attack
    cleave
    great cleave
    imp crit pierce
    overwhelming critical
    weapon focus
    weapon specialization
    gr weapon focus
    master of forms
    grandmaster of forms
    zen archery
    dodge
    point blank shot
    imp crit ranged
    epic damage reduction
    perfect two weapon fighting
    elusive target

    Enhancements:
Elf 12 (2% to hit, 2 to hit and damage, full dragonmarks)
    Elven accuracy 1
    Dragonmark focus 3
    Weapon training 2
    Lesser dragonmark 2
    Weapon training 2
    Greater dragonmark 2

Kensai 33 (3% doublestrike, 5 to hit, 4 damage, haste boost, centered light blades, 1 threat range, 2 str, 3 dodge, 1 action boost)
    Kensai focus light blades 1
    Weapon group specialization 2
    Haste boost 3
    Spiritual bond 1
    Weapon group specialization 2

    Sneak attack training 2

Tempest 6 (10% offhand, 2 to hit and damage, 2 reflex)
    Shield of whirling steel 1

    Weapon training 2
    Skill 1

Shintao optional 1 (10 positive spell, 5% heal amp)
    Protection from tainted creatures 1

Ninja spy optional 2 (ninja poison)

Before U19, this was true for any kensai who didn't use monk weapons. I think that this is the option which hurts the least.

It's nice to see that the feat section has room for customization:
The Dragonmark feat justifies taking Extend, but could probably work without as well.
I wouldn't take grandmaster stance, but rather Combat Archery (dropping Epic DR).
From what I heard, Deflect Arrows is a nice feat to take as a monk bonus feat.

I'm probably going to take a ETR as well, so I'm in no hurry to TR into that build, but so far, this looks like the version which is most attractive to me.

I like your changes. Dropping epic DR and grandmaster stances, you lose about 4% damage mitigation. Starting with 16 dex and a +5 tome you could get combat archery with minimal investment.

I'm not entirely sold on deflect arrows. I think it would be worth it with improved defense from tempest, which costs 6 APs and might be a good option. I'd have to try out some of the other enhancements to see what I'd be willing to give up.

Here is the level and feat progression I came up with based on your suggestions.

    level progression: rmrrrrrmffffffffmmmm

    feats:
    1 dragonmark
    2m power attack
    3 point blank shot
    6 extend
    8m dodge
    9 imp crit pierce
    9f imp crit ranged
    10f weapon focus
    12 gtwf
    12f weapon specialization
    14f power critical
    15 cleave
    16f gr weapon focus
    18 great cleave
    20m zen archery
    21 master of forms
    24 overwhelming critical
    26 perfect two weapon fighting
    27 combat archery
    28 elusive target

If you want deflect arrows, just take zen archery instead of power critical and deflect arrows at 20.

With this progression, I'd just play it as an evasion twf until I really got into the monk levels.

EDIT: With this progression you end up with 22 concentration and 22 heal, the two key skills imo, with some left over to put into balance and spot.

I can show him in action the next time you are online. I TRed this toon from Centered Mornh to this spec. This spec hits a lot harder in most cases, due to the much higher SA damage, but not as durable as centered Monrh 10 Monk/8 fighter/2 druid. Less dodge %, and don't have shadow veil nor fist of light.

This looks interesting for sure. I'll get into touch with you within the next few days.
Why 11/8/1 and not 13/6/1? Am I missing something which is granted by Ran 7 or 8, which is better than Opportunist?

Needs rgr 8 to take Emp Heal. Took me a bit to figure that one out, too.

EDIT: another possibility is Ye Olde rog 13 / rgr 6 with cleric or FvS splash; you lose barb splash bonuses but gain Opportunist, +1d6 SA, & Divine Might while keeping access to Emp Heal.

I'm currently in sorta the same boat as you are but with some different restrictions. Since you mentioned a LR20 I figured I'd spend a couple mins on the off chance that you have access to Bladesworn. Because if you do your options have a bit of depth now that we can LR out of Iconics 1st level. I've been fooling around some and even with moderate bluebar splits (i.e. ~5-8) a 25sp Quickened Reconstruct feels nearly ridiculous on a melee. Theres actually enough choices I'm kinda locked up and cant make a decision. Honestly I'm surprised I haven't seen more noise over the fact that melees have a possibility to be nearly as survivable as casters and likely even more survivable if built for durability.

I like Wraps so the builds I'm considering may convey that but listing some just on the off chance something sparks an idea in you. I'm not familiar enough with rogues to add them in but I would bet you could fit them in several of the below builds easily.
*I used Wiz so much because of the feats and Displace/invis SLA even when Sorc might traditionally seem more reasonable e.g. X/Xwiz/Xpal build*
    12rgr/6wiz/2mnk
    12fvs/6rgr/2mnk
    12fvs/6rgr/2pal
    11rgr/5wiz/4pal
    12art/6rgr/2pal
    12art/6mnk/2rgr

    8fvs/6wiz/6rgr

    8wiz/6rgr/6mnk

    8ftr/6wiz/6rgr
    8ftr/6mnk/6wiz
    8ftr/6fvs/6rgr

    8art/6ftr/6rgr
    8art/6wiz/6rgr
    8art/8wiz/4pal
    8art/8ftr/4pal
    8art/8ftr/4rgr
    8art/8ftr/4fvs

Some of those are at best a bit off the top of my head and at worst straight out my butt. I've worked up a few of those builds on the Character Builder is your interested let me know and I'll hopefully remember to let you know.

Thanks for the input. I don't have access to Bladeforged, and I don't want to turn that toon into a wrap-user.

EDIT: another possibility is Ye Olde rog 13 / rgr 6 with cleric or FvS splash; you lose barb splash bonuses but gain Opportunist, +1d6 SA, & Divine Might while keeping access to Emp Heal.
Not to mention ISA, if there is room for it. (One could drop Epic Toughness, for example.)

Currently, I am torn between 13rog/6ran/1 and 8fgt/6ran/6mnk, with a heavy inclination towards the latter. The only thing which is preventing me from TRing is an acute lack of commendations of valor.

here is a build that, maybe with some changes, hope can help you. Dex based, opportunist, improved precise shot, ISA and 2x agony which are really nice with tier 5 assassin.

Why 11/8/1 and not 13/6/1? Am I missing something which is granted by Ran 7 or 8, which is better than Opportunist?
He is right about empower heal. This toon will sit at around 900 hp at level 28. Without any pos spell power gear, I tick for about 50-80 with cocoon and that is barely enough to keep a 900 hp top up in EE when mobs hit for 200-600 per hit. A strong cocoon makes life a lot easier not having to scroll heal as often in EE.

I played with the enhancements a bit. It's pretty tight and you can't spend many points in the racial tree if you want some the goodies from Monk and Ranger:

34 Kensai (Minimum to get to One With the Blade)
11 Ninja Spy (Minimum to get Shadow Veil)
11 Tempest (Minimum to get 10% Offhand Chance)
7 Shintao (Minimum to get 10% Offhand Chance), up to 6 more if you want Iron Skin

This leaves us with at most 17 points to spend on DWS tree (Tendon Cut, Exposing Strike, Extra SA damage) and the Racial Tree. Cutting Exposing Strike is probably the best bet since the amound of SA damage will not be too much on that build.

It's actually only 6 that you need in tempest to get 10% offhand and you can spend 33 in kensai to get one with the blade if you just waste a point to get you to 30. So that gives you a few points there.

It takes 12 points to get to the greater dragonmark. For another 6 you get 2 to hit and damage, 3 dodge, and 3 doublestrike. When I was looking at how to spend the optional APs, those last 6 in elf seemed like the best value. That's a lot for only 6 AP.

So if you go that route, that only leaves 5 more AP to spend. I haven't used ninja poison, but since it's an on crit effect, this build should get great use out of it with a 13-20 crit profile (12-20 with fists of iron). So I thought I'd at least try that out.

my own intention was to play this primarily as a melee and mainly use ranged for manyshot. That's why I wasn't looking into deepwood stalker.

EDIT: Looking at those enhancements from deepwood stalker I see they are melee attacks. I thought it was mostly ranged stuff in that tree. They do look like they would be good, but if I wasn't spending points in the racial tree, I'm not sure I would go with elf. One of my main goals with this build was to use the elf dragonmarks and the elf tree has great synergy with a dual rapier/ranged build. I'm not sure what other race I'd pick though.
