Default Spellbook empty after epic TR

I just epic TR'd my juggernaut, Vykandos, to give him a test run and have had to start selecting spells again from scratch - checked to see if anyone else had reported it and couldn't find anything - posting here to let you know as I really don't want that going live

Good point! When you've lesser tr'ed (say a wizard) in the past you keep your learned spells but are still required to chose spells as you level up from a reduced list. By the time you have done it three times there will be no Level 9 spells to chose.

At least that is how i read it

No, you're reading it wrong. Your spellbook is wiped out when performing an epic TR requiring you to re-learn all of your spells. IMO, this is not WAI (I hope).

Ok I stand corrected, I am replying and away from my pc.

Still, it is better than the scenario I suggested

I'm not sure if this is WAI or not, but makes no sense! Let me keep my spell with Epic TR.

happened with a True TR also to my wizard. Which was a bit upsetting because it didn't used to do that.

I think this is WAI. I'm almost sure that when Epic TR went live a dev specified that ETR would wipe all the spells

Nope. He (Steel iirc) stated that the wiping was a bug. It didn't go live. ETR wasn't supposed to reset spells, quest completions, etc. Just take you back to 20.

Don't know if that intent has changed but I hope not.

I have done 18 Epic lives on my drow pale master. I have never lost my spellbook once. I am pretty sure this is working as intended and that you are unlucky your spells were wiped.

Also, it's ER by the way (not ETR). It is not a "true" reincarnation -- it is more akin to a lesser.

The selecting spells part is normal. The losing spells part is not.

Are you sure your existing spells are in the list to choose from? If so I am sorry to hear that, but within a few lives you will completely fill out your spell book.

Agreed. I have to re-memorise spells after I ER. I don't have to scribe new spells into my spellbook, however.
