Default Looking for a Cleric Build

Hi all, I played a long time ago (in 2008) and had a 16 Human Cleric. I really enjoyed the class and play style. Back then I was full of DV's and was a heavy support with very little offence but I was rather adept at keeping the group up..

I'm looking for some build advice that will let me continue that play style.. I'm looking for a character that will be welcome in end game, TR well, and follow the Group Support, Heal Bot play style.

I have Veteran VIP Status with 32 point builds unlocked.

I would really appreciate some build advice..

    Cheers.

Just to add as I've been reading... I'm thinking of Cleric Splash some paladin (2 maybe) so i can get the Cha bonus to my saves and Paladin Aura... Was also thinking Human for the extra feat.

I think I'd fancy my self a turning Cleric with support for heals.. Anyone have a viable build for that?

    Default Sunelf / Favored Soul

I rolled an Iconic Sunelf Morninglord and went for all the light spell critical and spell power. I splashed Favored soul to get the Smite and Scourge enhancements. I have 15 cleric and 1 favored soul level and I am hitting for up to 1100 damage with my sun bolt enlarged and maximized. Sunburst is great for clearing areas of undeads. Turning ability is so so but the light power more than makes up for that I think. Heals enlarged and maximized are not bad. This is my first Cleric build and that was my approach so far so good.

The Divine Disciple PrE means clerics can still be great healers and contribute more DPS than before; it's just a matter of whether you want to focus on caster DPS (DD) or heals (Radiant Servant). [Warpriest opens up some interesting battlecleric options too; but I'll presume you want to stay caster-focused.]

Have a look at EllisDee's Necro cleric build. Alternatively, here's a pure cleric which is heal-/light-centric:

Majority-Radiant Servant, but enough spent on light DD to get 3 SLAs (Nimbus/Searing/Holy Smite) plus three "Sun-" spells (Bolt/Beam/Burst). On first-life casters, I tend to focus on DCs, on the presumption the first priority is getting your spells to land; hence all the Spell Focuses & Great WIS. The drawback is I neglected Spell Pen, so spells like Gtr Command & Implosion will be less effective vs. mobs w/SR (e.g., those darn epic drow). Also some people prefer the Mental Toughness line for the extra SPs and +1% crit per feat; I don't think it's a good ROI for a pure build, but YMMV. Also I dumped CHA, which costs you a couple of TUs; and dumped STR, so watch out for Ray of Enfeeblement, esp. early on.

Maybe be worth dropping a few enhancements somewhere and pick up

    smite foe
    Resilience of battle
    Toughness III
    Wall of steel III

From the warpriest line, for extra PRR, HP, and +5DR/-, +10light/fire spellpower and +4ac.

I am curently playing a past life cleric convience build^^. Melee, using Divine Might, pushing CHA every 4 lvl.s. Human for maximum feats, 2 Ftr/ 1 Wiz to get even more. I crafted turning items and so far I can affect at least 4 undead on elite setting in heroic quests at full scaling due to Radiant Servant tree.

Free metamagic feat from Wiz, 2 free combat feats from Ftr, 1 free general from human.

Took Archmage tree for Shield SLA, Exp. Reatreat as spell cause running speed below lvl. 20 sucks. Else the usual items + spells for being a buff/healtype cleric. But mostly I use my turnings for healing. Instead of Ftr you can take 2 Pal to get higher trap defense regarding your saves. Not having evasion hurts nowadays (always falling for those annoying poison damage trap changes -.-).

Anyway I am chilling my way up to lvl. 20 again and doubt this idea holds much in endgame. I consider it a pure past life idea. But may be enough for you.

That's an option too, ofc; and given OP's stated goal of being a support / healer build, I might also recommend picking up Inflame. Really, it's all a matter of how you want to spread your APs.

There are a lot of toons and builds with self healing now. Unless you are in a static group that just runs Epic Elite all the time you may want to consider a casting or melee roll. SLAs have increased a Clerics casting output while your PAL2 allows for some melee and saves. As long as you take CLR17 min your support will be just fine.

Survivability seems to be PRR and saves. A supportive Clerics best build is a survivable one. But what if there are lots of Healers and self healing in a group. With ED twists melees self heal some or atleast till you get to them. You may find the old healbot support build lacking and most melees would agree with this now unless they are a newbie. Heck we got newbies running around at level 16 now with stone of xp.

Epic Destinies have change the game. Everyone with slight changes can qualify for most destinies and that is where the power is even on a first life.

Your lack of healing amp not my problem. Please buy and use your own remove curse pots in combat, so I don't waste mana. Not my job.

Are you certain that for now and forever you will never need to kill enemies, and will always be running with groups that are happy to have you piking instead of helping?

If you are looking to make a character you actually intend to enjoy playing, and is effective in a variety of situations, there is never any good reason to build a healbot.

I'm not saying you shouldn't PLAY AS a healbot if you currently enjoy that, or the situation requires it. But just about any and every Cleric build CAN heal adequately. Going for some ultra-healbot build, when that minor amount of extra healing is not needed, at the expense of never even having the flexibility to play more offensively, is a bad trade-off.

Build something that can heal AND cast offensively, or something that can heal AND melee, etc.. Whether you actually currently intend to use those abilities is beside the point; give yourself the option in the future.

(Exception: some people, who don't really enjoy Clerics at all, build an ultra-healbot solely for the purpose of healing guild raids. Since they don't use it anywhere else, it doesn't matter that it's gimp and unfun everywhere else.)

Default Ingredients for a cool, healing cleric

Here is my advice for a healing cleric.
    1) Make sure you have a melee hireling at all times
    2) Lead pick up groups
    3) Pick up defensive feats only
    4) Maximize your healing with empower healing, a devotion item, maximized heal skill
    5) Have a balanced build
    6) Get acquainted with the radiant servant enhancement tree
    7) Improve your (A)health, (B)spell points, (C)physical resistance rating and saves and then finally (D)AC, in that order.
    8) Use the Unyielding Sentinel epic path
Shake, not stir, use ice cubes and a good dice bag.
