The HORC build is linked in the original post, near the bottom as part of the "Gains (over Carry a Big Stick H-Orc STR build):" line. For ease of reference, here is the link again: Carry a Big Stick H-Orc STR Build.

I prefer the Halfling build here myself, but then I play mostly solo & duo and the better saves, defenses, & self-healing matter more to me than they might for someone who plays principally in larger groups.

I assume Inoukchuk (the OP) is still playing, since (s)he posted something to the forums a few days ago. But (s)he isn't an everyday poster so it may be a while before you get a direct response back.

One correction/addendum: The H-Orc build is probably more suitable for a first life character, since you can sacrifice a few stat points without losing much and it works with no tomes at all. This Halfling build needs the extra build points from TRing and a hefty tome (i.e. +4 STR) to qualify for feats. I think that pays off quite well for it, but that's a significant extra hurdle to meet.

Whoah, good call. I fail at reading comprehension. That's actually a pretty decent looking half-orc stick build, too. I went in prepared to hate it, but I don't at all.

Would you care to comment on it in any depth? I'm "bookmarking" staff builds while I farm up a set off staves for various levels for what I am jokingly calling my "TR project" character (who is never going to hit 20 at this rate ;-) ).

I was indeed referring to this build, but I can offer some ideas about adjusting it. Or I would suggest posting in the big "Request a Build" thread as there are a lot of helpful and knowledgeable folks who watch that.

    Key questions:
    1) How many build points? 28 vs 32 vs 34 vs 36
    2) What tomes do you have or are willing to have?
    3) Any past lives worth noting? (Principally considering feats)
    4) Are you a slow leveler and focused on Heroics or the easier Epic Normal and Epic Hard difficulty range, or are you aiming for an "end game" (insofar as there is one these days) Epic Elite capable character?

I am assuming that Iconics are irrelevant since you are asking about Halflings.

Part of why I ask is that DEX-based characters are fine in heroic content but the much larger number of stacking STR buffs and the difficulty of reaching the STR requirements for the THF feat line and Overwhelming Critical feat mean that it is much easier to stay STR-based unless you have past lives and big tomes to help close the gap.

For example for me I have 32-pt "champion" builds and have never TR'd a single character (*gasp*), I avoid tomes as much as possible in building a character but I will spring for +2s as needed, and I am a slow leveler who plays many Heroic and "gimp" (i.e. non-EE) Epic characters as the mood strikes me so endgame min/max is a secondary concern. This flavors the builds I play heavily because I tend to pick expedient build choices rather than ideal ones that will pay off with loads of raid gear and Greensteel or depend on multiple PLs or EPLs.

FWIW I have 2 staff-focused characters at the moment, one a STR-based Elf that's similar to my earlier post here and the second is a Rogue-splashed Paladin. Neither are all that high level yet. There's a good list of staves in this thread if you want to look for ones worth farming for.

    he will be 36pt build.
he has +5 tomes for strength and dex, the rest are +4.
both past lives were TWF rogue.
i tend to level slowly, but i want to take him back to max level as this will be his final life.

my plan was to keep him halfling, even if it means he will be a flavor build.
